It's one thing when I plane is just doing simple passenger duties... but the acrobatic maneuvers and extreme G forces at an airshow puts extreme stress on every single part of the plane, making failure more likely. So there is really no excuse for anything but the most thorough top to bottom mechanical/safety checks.

You have no idea about the maintenance crews of these racing aircraft, as I said earlier... they are more than often top notch, like F1 pit teams.

With that in mind, there is not much lessening of risk to be had with these maintenance teams... unless you perhaps developed robots to take their place to completely minimize the natural human error that sometimes happens.

Shit just happens, you've got learn to go on with it... next time hopefully it won't and maybe the maintenance crew will be a little more tedious and do their checks more often... but there's nothing that can be done to lessen the risks of these types of events.

Hell, now that I think of it... sure, who was I to doubt these fine men?

I'm sure these guys went over this plane with a fine comb and a microscope... knowing racing teams like these guys I'm not sure that one COULD ask them to do much more as the do all that is possible already.


So... any other suggestions on how to lessen the risk, besides looking at the top notch maintenance crew?

i don't go to air shows anymore. we have one here every year in august. it's usually 110 degrees out. the few seats that they have are in the sun and reserved for VIP only. the planes fly too low so you can't see past the person in front of you. they offer no other seating, other then a few hay bails. you can drag in your own chair if you'd like though. the show itself is rather boring. bunch of little planes dragging smoke around. cool if you're 6. they bring in a jet or two to do a flyby at the end which is pretty much the whole show. other then the 20 junkers you can climb all over in the lot. it makes for a long boring day that leaves you wishing it was more. at least the food and beer is decent.


i'm not really into "spectator events". i'm more a DIY kinda guy. ;')
