not all the time. ive met plenty of growers that didnt know their herb had the rot. my brothers friend came over the other day with some blue dream he grew out from some cuts of mine. while it smelled good and looked decent enough it was considerably darker than the product. when i started to break it up to roll i noticed it had rot by the way it crumbled down. you would be surpised at the amout of disease that gets put out there.
Is it possible that they got a little mold? What was your humidity levels? I'd say anything over 50% is too much, and temps should be cool around 60 or so. . are they moist? do the stems snap? Where I am, my buds dry in a bout 3-4 days. I keep humidity at 40-45% RH and about 65 degrees f. I then put them is 1/2 gallon mason jars for about 3-4 days, then into large plastic air sealed containers for another 3-5 days and they are good to go. My patients and the despensaries love my meds and everything is gone on my first day deliveries.
