Replacing 2000 watts of HPS with 1000 watts COB LEDs

I've had a recurring problem and I haven't been getting much sleep lately, because I've been obsessively checking on it.

So... I need to buy one more light. The $299 deal at Northern Growlights is sold out. They do have another for $350, however. I want that type of light (2 cobs, 200 watts). Does anyone know a better deal than the Northern Grow at this time?

Interesting, because a lot of people go for the higher CCT because of the higher lumen output. You seem to have found that the lower CCT actually gave better results. The 2700k ones have the best spectrum of the bunch IMO. And I also think that higher CRI is worth the extra cost. The red band is centered around 630 nm, which is a a lot better than the lower CRI ones where it's centered more in the yellow zone. My recommendation is to buy the lowest CCT and highest CRI available. So what if it cost a few dollars more per COB? You'll be using them for years. You would lose a lot more than a few dollars in weight and quality on the first crop if you cheaped out or thought that higher lumens equals more yield. It was proven long ago that plants only need about 1/5th as much blue as red for healthy growth.

We will know for sure once @CobKits shows his results... @dro-man80 did you have this recorded with lab numbers? Or is it more of an opinion on how you saw them? Final weights plus quality would be how I would decided what's better

If you dont mind placing a few screws, then you might want to consider timber growlights. I dont have any experience with them, though. They just seem to be almost as straight forward as the plug and play deals out there. I like both tasty led and northern grow lights, though. well, plc for the matter as well. the three owners are very decent people, I think.

So, eventually I want to remove the HPS and just have cobs. These are 4000 spectrum. I am not sure how to proceed after I get my 4th mailbox in there. I can either keep buying these until I have filled the space, or build a fixture with like 6 cobs.

What do you guys think? It's very cost effective to go with the mailboxes, as they are only $200 each. So for someone on a limited budget, I can just buy them when I have the cash until the space is done. Should I add 3000's as well? Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. I am a LED convert :)

Just got my new 20 cob setup going. 20 cxbs 3590 3000k 90 cri. 1750 ma. 5 bars of 4. Right now I only have 3 bars running cause I wasn't able to fill my new room up yet. I think I built my new 4×8 room too air tight. I feels like it's in the mid to upper 80s. I notice as soon as I Crack the door in there it's cools down immediately. I'm thinking of drilling a bunch of .5 inch holes on the opposite side of the room from my filter. Maybe 20 or 30 holes in a square pattern. Then cover holes on the outside with some sort of dark filter material. Mainly so room can get more fresh air but still be in the dark during lights out. What do yall think? Any better ideas. Had the same fan filter combo with a 600 watt hps. It moves 500cfm which is alot in a 4×8. That room stayed around 75. Now it's in the same size room different setup and very little ventilation of fresh air. I think the .5 inch holes should work. Probably buy a 20 ×20 ac filter and run screws in the 4 corners to hold it over the holes. The suction would probably hold it there but at lights out fan goes off then it would be on the floor.

Yeah for around 300 plus for a cheap one or a little window unit built into the side of my room. Frigidaire cost 139$. 3/4 inch tubing and a 5 gal bucket. Would take a week before I'd have to dump out water. It would be on low for only 12 hrs a day. Trust me I like the ductless portable units but I have a big family and I'm on a budget. So if I can achieve the same result for less money then I'm golden. The reason for the holes is to not use anymore electricity than I have to. I'm going to do the hole regardless just for fresh air. We'll see how it goes from there. Are all cob users using portable ac units
