reporting plant issues?

I don't often post questions because I use the search alot. But I ran into an issue and wanted some thoughts.
The ladies are about 3 wks into flower and it looks like I need to pot up. Poor planning and work have forced the issue.
My question is what are best ways to min stress on them?
They are in smart pots in ffof soil. In tent under 400 hps. I believe they are root bound. Thanks in advance.

Fabric pots? The least stressful would be to use medical shears to cut the pot off. Medical shears, letter opener, a seat belt cutter. Anything designed specifically to protect the side opposite the cut.

I wouldn't try any other way myself, not that far into flower. You'd probably end up with buds all full of soil, or worse. I actually just transplanted out of a smart pot into the ground, but it was still in veg. I broke a fan leaf and ended up with soil all over the plant and myself.

Wrap a trash bag over the plant so it doesn't get dirty and roll the sides down. air pruned roots usually wont get root bound. you may have some root swirl on the bottom though if thats the case then that should be broken up a little. typically you want to pot up two weeks before you flower. When did you transplant to that pot? I bet you just ran out of food. Take a picture.

For me smart pots have been a pain to transplant out of because they haven't been getting root bound.. I personally like being able to dry out and flip a pot over and have it slide right out. With the smart pots I've had a hard time getting the soil and root mass out of the fabric in one piece (I may be done with small fabric pots).

Thanks for the replies. I guess "smart pot" is the wrong description. It is a plastic pot with the water res under it.
Frankly they just got away from me. 2 NL and a freebie that turns out to be a sativa of some sort. So two shorts and a tall. So some stretch. They about doubled in size.
All of the sudden my watering got crazy. Go to water them on reg day and water comes out of the bottom right away. Check with meter and tells me it's dry. So I knew I had an issue.

So I repotted yesterday. They were definitely root bound. But the soil was dry enough it came out in one clump. Loosened up the edges little bit. New soil on bottom and around the edges. Watered them good.
So far they look great this morning. We'll see how they do in the next few days.
I didn't get any pics of roots but some before and after. The yellow in one of the after pics is light trick. They are good and green.

I'm just one of those people who learn the hard way. Always have been. Like I tell my kids, I have made all these mistakes for YOUR benefit. Learn from it.

That haze plant is a beaut but it will take forever, some take 120 days of flowering. Probably twice as long as that indi. They look nice though. Those probe moisture meters and ph testers are junk. I stick my finger in the soil a couple inches, if it feels dry, the soil is starting to pull away from the sides and the pot feels light its time to water. You will stress her if you let it wilt, plus if it gets too dry then you will end up with dead spots in your root zone. You don't want it too wet either. I think that freebe sativa is a haze You might want to get some wire and tie those long branches together so they support each other I'd hate to see them kink or break.

Wow. Hope it doesn't take that long, lol. Yeah that lady really stretched out. So is wire the best thing to use? I had started with yarn because I figured it would be softer?

As long as you don't wrap it tight its fine. I like it because its more ridged and doesn't leave fibers behind. grow pics 007.jpg grow pics 028.jpg

I just threw it together, state law says it has to be in a locked facility, I had some chain link and logs laying around. I do need a better greenhouse. It does the job though.
