Repot Question (From Soil to DWC)

Hi, While i havnt been a grower for a very long time (1 year outdoor , 6 months indoors) Ive never really tried hydro-grows untill now.

Im Interested in all methods but have chosen DWC as i like cheap methods (Personal use so no need for large grows)

Before i digress while i Smoke some , I Want to know a few things
1.Is their any age limit to transplanting From Soil to DWC? (plants in question are 3-4 weeks)-Not so sure, just had a baby so ive misplaced my grow log book.
2. What Nutriant lvls would u suggest-Or anything on this topic in relation to hydro systems Would be Good.
3.Out of these 2 girls (Pre-sexed and revert to get early confirmation of sex.) Which Would An Experienced/talented(not always the same) Grower keep IY-OP as ill put the other outside.

From what I've heard, it's basically impossible to effectively transplant from soil to DWC... you will damage the roots too much trying to remove the soil.

Hopefully someone will say I'm wrong on that... but that's what I've gathered so far.

It can be done, But it's awfully risky.

If I were you I would just flower those plants out and start DWC with your next batch, Or take some clones for DWC

mmm, Well I Wasnt planning On Doing anything more then what i Do when i reveg. Which Is Get Rid of the clumps off dirt, Give the roots abit of a shake, Then i wash the rootball with water till im satisfied, I Do understand that my water will become dirty-

However, If its not know to work i can always just take a few cuttings and make a 8 plant tub.,

soil to dwc is not a problem if you have a large enough container to house your existing pots. you can take an 18 gallon walmart tote, cut a hole in the lid large enough to house your black nursery container and slider her in. as long as you have the proper ph, air, and nutrients under it....watch the roots come flying out and you're in dwc.

i really would not try to extract the rootball and shake it off....that sounds like an absolute nightmare waiting to happen.

never had issues with the rootball with revegging, but then again this is very differnt. Ill proberly build an airoponics propagator and make cuttings, unless anoyone has tried a bubbler to propergate clones with sucess

Im still learning, Had to balance my first ph just before, poor thing was sitting in 8ph after the nutes where addedd.

Please don't do this^^^. That's a rez full of mud waiting to happen. If you can get a basket about the same size as your pot or bigger, remove the bulk of the soil, wash the roots down, and repot it in a hydro basket, you should be just fine. I keep most of my clones in soil before they get stuck in dwc.

I've transfered from soil to water several times.. but I always start my beans in rock wool. If you are careful with hydroton you can spread the roots out and not hurt the plant.
I rinse and flush with mineral water to get any of the loose soil off.
No big deal really, as long as you are gentle with your babies.

Dont want to shock those to much, so may Use that Reveged (shes been reveged 3 times) As a mother i think

thanks for the vote of confidence!! lol i've done this a couple times for various reasons and never had anything resembling "a res full of mud." more like a room full of bud... i cant help but wonder how on earth you would get a rootmass that size rinsed clean, replanted in new medium and integrated into dwc without putting a plant into a state of weeks long shock. alas i have no dog in this fight. do whatever you feel comfortable with. probably best to wait for next round honestly...

If you just rely on the drain hole in the nursery pots, I could see this working without too much mess. I apologize for speaking a bit harshly, my vagina was a bit sandy yesterday. If that was the only option, I'm sure you could make it work. That pot doesn't look any bigger than a 1gal really, transplanting that is easy. I just take a 5gal bucket, put water in it, and then wash the roots in the bucket. You won't get everything out, but you can get 90% of it. Then you get your clean 5gal bucket, 10" net pot, some lava rocks, etc., and DWC away. Never had any visible shock when I've done it. It slows the plant down, but it's not for very long. Transplanting into some of the DWC rigs I've seen here would be pretty much impossible though, so I can see your concern. I do agree that waiting until the next round would be wiser though. If you're not confident with what you're getting into, you may do what I did at the start and over-love your plants. It's best to try new things on something other than your main crop.
