Hey all, new to growing but a very eager learner. I am currently doing a CFL box grow that I just started to flower, and while I plan on another indoor grow, I am also thinking about throwing a couple seeds outside. I'm pretty fortunate with my house setup, surrounded by bushes, trees and bamboo plants with plenty of privacy. I plan on planting my girls into the dirt rather than using pots. That being said, I was wondering if any of you had opinions on the best time to plant my seeds outdoors in Oregon? I've read around, just want to get some personal opinions, doesn't even really need to be for Oregon, general outdoors or northwest tips will be appreciated too. Also, what kind of problems could I expect or should I be careful of? I've read about bud worms, caterpillars, etc but once again just want some personal experiences from you all. If any of this has been brought up in a different thread then just let me know, not trying to pollute the forums if I don't need to, +rep for any help!

ok well first thing is you shuld never grow on your own property but if u think u are safe then ok. you shuld work up the soil were you are growing them a few feet down. if u dont have fem'ed seeds then you probably wanna space them out so they dont pollinate if you do have males and it will give there roots space. u are going to want to wait for your last frost which you can easily find a average day on the interweb for michigan it is usualy the last week of may.hope this helps. spring is upon us

thanks! I only feel comfortable growing on my own property because of how private my house is, I literally used to pass the house on my way to work every day and I always just thought it was bushes and trees until I was taken to the house by my fiance. And thanks for the last frost tip, I guess I was just too high to think that simple haha. +rep!

Dude there are so many variables in an outdoor grow I don't know where to begin. Bugs, pests, stealth, adequate light, proper genetics for your area, etc.

First, you don't just wanna plop seeds into the ground. You're going to want to veg them inside for at least a few weeks before putting them outside. Since you already do indoor this shouldn't be a problem.

For best results, I wouldn't recommend planting in the native soil either. Most serious outdoor growers either dig holes or use some sort of bucket or beds with their own soil. I prefer pro-mix or sunshine mix. Being in the NW you can probably get Roots Organics out there.

Since I have no idea what your local weather conditions are like out there, all I can say is don't put plants out until after the last frost. Early May maybe? Also, you are going to want to choose genetics that will finish before the fall frost. I'm guessing mid October in Oregon? Maybe late October at the most? I have no idea. Check online for your area. In my experience, plants that are about 3-4 weeks old can handle a light frost, but mid to low 20's over a few nights will probably kill them. To me, it's not worth taking the chance. Waiting an extra week or two to put them out isn't going to make or break you in the end.

It's all a matter of how serious you want to get with this since you out what you put into it. Big holes + month old clones/seedlings + plenty of sun and water + proper genetics for your area + a little luck and you can have a great year. Do it half ass and you'll probably be dissapointed. :)

Shoot, I actually forgot about this post until I was about to start another one! Haha, gotta work on my smoking and RIU-ing. Thanks for all your input, I will be sure to update you if I finally decide to put some outside. Thanks for your detailed advice too sonar, after posting this and researching more I pretty much found your post, but spread out through many, many people's posts lol. I actually just took a couple of clones from my indoor grow a few days ago, so depending on how those do with rooting and everything they might be the ones to get put outside in about a month or so. Our last frost in my area is usually around early/mid may, so I am thinking if I put them in the ground around 4/20 (duhhhh) then they should (hopefully) be fine? Shouldn't get below freezing around here at that time, though it's not too warm either.

For my holes, since I only have a few clones that I would be putting out, would it be best to plant them in seperate holes or let them share one big hole? I have read a lot of different opinions on different soils to use, pots, buckets, etc, but I would like to know what has personally worked well for you and your own experiences, though I appreciate all the opinions I get on the sire, opinions are just opinions but experience is what I am looking for here.
