Reservoir Changes

To those of you doing ebb and flow. How often do you guys drain, clean, and refill your reservoirs? Also, do you flush with water for any amount of time between reservoir changes to eliminate nutrient lockouts? How bad is it to have a reservoir without a lid? I know light entering a reservoir can create algae, but are there any other drawbacks to working without a lid on the reservoir?

If you have pets, I can think of a drawback. cn

just know from many others that you need to lightproof a res as much as possible.

i change my res's(50gal) every 2-3 weeks in aero, depending on schedule, and every 7-10 days in dwc. i used to flush because of salt build up every res change but that was when i was running 1400-1600ppm. now that i never go above 1000 i found it to be a waste.
