RH 40-60%, need to lower it cheaply.

just an opinion here which is what you are asking for mind ya but I WOULD SAY THAT IF YOU WANTED TO CONTROL HUMIDITY OR ANY OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM ON THE CHEAP THEN WHAT YOU fuuuuCK need to do is lessen the size of the problem.
contain the size of the surrounding apmosphere (man I butcher words) to the extent possible even if only for the night and throw in that bag of dessicant.
I have heard that there is a brand of cat litter that is almost pure dessicant. expensive cat litter but cheap dehumidifier. Sorry forgot you only had 5 bucks
pan of salt in front of your fan might help.................thats all I got Dude
 
Ugh just realized that I have to blow the $20 I just got on Dirt/Damprid..

I got one of those it didn't work for crap. Just play with your air circulation and or intake/out take circulation. The two main things are getting the humid air away from the growing area and getting as much air moving as possible in the grow area.

I need a good fix, the humidity last night hit 90+ around 1am.
I came up there and it said "HI%" so I held the reader by a CFL to dry it out until I got a number, and it hit 88%.
So it was well above 90%..

same here... i got peaks of 75% without my 1000w hps and when its on it hoovers around the 40s and low 50s... i went out and got a dehumidifier... but i was wondering why does the humidity go up with light off?
 
My grow room is at 80F and the RH is 75
I've grown enough not to be concerned with mold and each plant gets inspected every few days. Idk why u think u need to get the RH down but air movement is more important than RH

I agree 100% air is important
 
I have a lot of air flow on the plant, I have a 10" desk fan on High pointed straight at the plant.
I like to make them strong.

But 90+ humidity? Isn't that just begging for mold?

And your lights dry the air around themselves, which is one reason it's dryer with lights on.
Also as temperatures drop, humidity rises as the amount of moisture the air can hold drops.
 
well i had the same problem my RH was around 75-80% so i put in a dehumidifier and now the temps are like 95+ and i just dunno what to do

You need to realize that your dehumidifier, although it reduces RH, it WILL produce heat. Just like an air conditioning unit. Cold on one side, heat on the other. I run a 70 pint dehumidifier and when it's on, it gets real hot. I try not not running it much since my room temp is already 86+ but sometimes it's a must.

It works, in the sense that it takes moisture from the air. But as for lowering humidity not so much. It may have worked better, if I emptied it any time moisture that had accumulated in the bottom. I even tried kitty liter in the bottom but that didn't help much either.

Even just cracking open those windows will play a large role in reducing the humidity.
 
I got a different version of damprid for the bathroom after had a leaking pipe and it kept the room dry enough that I didn't have any mold on the walls or anything. Think I got it from walmart, don't really remember, but it was in a plastic bin sort of thing that collects the water below it. I changed the top bag of stuff when the bin was half full as it seemed to not be working as well. It definitely works well though.
 
Well I decided a different action to take;
I'm using a loft right now,
Imagine a left side window, and a right side window, on a rectangle.
I'm opening both of these windows and pointing a fan outside of one of them.
It should make a nice draft with the way the sun hits my house.
Humidity is back in the 35-50 range. I think it was just extra humid that day.
I'll keep everyone posted on humidity levels after I install the fan.
