RIP Cecil the Lion

Palmer is in hiding, in fear for his life lol. His practice is likely toast. Don't let his claims of innocence sway you, he's been in trouble before for taking an illegal bear in Wisconsin. His guide and the landowner whose property the lion was lured to, face 15 yrs in a Zimbabwe prison

I'll go halves with you on that gun, wanna go hunting?

Yeah, he fucked up on that Black bear deal - like the Possum Police never saw that one before. o_O

I'm not so sure on the Lion kill though - common sense tells me it should be primarily on the guide, but then again I'm ignorant on their game laws so there's always that.
Yes the guide was the professional. Then again people with money should not be able to buy someone to shield them from their illegal behavior. Especially between areas of high financial disparity.

This is so sad.

I don't get why some (rich) hunters feel the need to shoot lions/ exotic animals. What are you trying to prove? Small penis syndrome? You need to impress your drinking buddies with the mount? Thrill of the hunt became an excessive addiction I reckon. $50,000 plus expenses for a lion that is so tame you can walk up on it with a bow.

I don't get it.

Couple months ago some posh Texas hunter paid something like 200,000 - 500,000 at auction to shoot a endangered Black Rhino that was apparently too old to mate.

I guess if you have the money....

Mixed emotions on this one.

Just read GWN post^^ and I agree the damn guides should have known better. Not like dude tried to shoot a "research" lion or whatever you call it.

Whatever, what's done is done. A lot bigger problems in the world.

I don't understand sport or trophy hunters. Just doesn't appeal to me, but then again, if they're busy hunting celebrity wild life, they're not hunting me.

Palmer will likely skate, just have to prove he paid someone the $55K. The guide and landowner face 10yrs. The irony here is that according to Zimbabwe law, the only illegal thing was lack of a permit , which lands on the guide; and lack of a property owner quota permit obviously falling on the landowner.

Apparently it is legal to lure and bait even in a National Park

That I did not know.
However, the reports are that the lion was killed a mile outside of the park and the easiest way to make him move that far would be to drag (for instance) a zebra carcass behind a vehicle to your bait station where the blind is set up.

That tactic is not unusual in Lion hunting.

At this point I don't understand the hatred and threats directed at the hunter?
I've haven't hunted the dark continent(yet:eyesmoke:) but have used guides/outfitters in Canada.as a hunter you are paying someone who knows the land and the laws .
If someone is dropping $50,000+ on a hunt a guy shouldn't have to worry about borders and property lines, that's why you pay a guide!! This guy might be shady as hell and had known something was up but until I know that, the blame is on the outfitter/guide ...
So much anger towards 1 hunter? You'd be really mad if you knew how many big cats leave africa each year..

I have no intention of shooting an african cat.for the record...:bigjoint:

This isn't about the hunter it's about the cat he killed

People don't care about the other cats, it is because this cat was considered loved

This is like killing cows and loving Fido
Fuck guess I didn't shut up lol
