River Water

Title says it all. Has anybody ever used it? I live close to a river I was just thinking that it would be easier to fill a bucket up, than have to deal with tap water. But what microbes are in the river water? Would my soil get moldy or anything?

Test it out see what it's like, I plan on using straight river water run off on my guerilla grow in a couple weeks

Look around the area in which you are getting the water. Look at various plant life along the banks and any standing puddles of water trapped along the bank too. If you wouldnt want your plant(s) growing there I wouldnt use it. Just my 2 cents..

River water could be fine... but could be very bad too. Many minerals are disolved into the water as it winds it's way to your garden and those minerals may or may not be good for your babies.
Here's a test.... are you willing to use that same water and drinking water? If so, I might consider using it if it tasted ok.

very good idea. also be aware of possible pollution (i don;t know where on what river we are talking naturally)

Through my water filter I would have no problem drinking it. I don't want to get cholera. I do worry about salt but I would drive farther north. The wild life seem to like it.


What if I put a air stone in it while I stored it?

aerating the water will certaily give it a better "shelf life" but it will do nothing in terms of what is contained and suspended in water, other than keep it moving about.

at the end of the day though, just cut a clone, get it rooted and try it, see what happens. feeding a big flowering plant might be risky, but no harm in a pointless little clone
