rizla rolling papers taste...possible allergy??? (not weed related particularly, but...medical probably...)

Hey guys - have any of you had any problems with taste when it comes to Rizla rolling papers?

I smoke cigs as well, and over the last 2 months or so I've changed my tobacco to a cheaper brand. This brand doesn't come with papers so I've bought myself some Rizla blue...and they taste absolutely disgusting and I'm wondering if I might have an allergy to them.

I originally used to smoke Amber Leaf, but have downgraded to Lambert and Butler. I used to use menthol filters, but they were starting to taste a bit strange (like they sometimes do if it's a brand new bag and they're too strong...) so I've changed to normal filters.

The taste is disgusting...I'm sure it's not just the tobacco - it's sour, and sometimes like the taste of electricity when you put your tongue on a dead 9v battery.

Sometimes the taste just comes on and actually makes my tongue tingly and slightly numb along with this nasty taste.

SOMETIMES if I've rolled a bunch (I roll them in bulk) I get lightheaded and sometimes experience auras/visual disturbances.

Has anyone else had this before? Does anyone know of any batches of "bad/do not consume" Rizla papers? Could it be an allergy? It's definitely bad whatever...I sometimes feel slightly lightheaded generally since changing to these papers... (I smoke about 15 cigs a day).

Does this happen sometimes? I've never had it before but it's bloody nasty and concerning...

(Like I said, not really weed related...)

Rizla blue r garbage next time buy RAW
Maybe I should add, I'm in the UK...it's hard to find other brands of papers around generally.

Seriously though, has anyone heard of any bad batches the bloke from the market could've bought cheaply on Ebay because whoever had them didn't want to waste them and make some money back?

Has anyone had any bad reaction to any particular papers?

(I'd ask this somewhere else but I can't find many forums for smokers generally so my options WHERE to ask about it are pretty limited, especially as none of my mates smoke rollies...)

Although I have quit cigarettes have always rolled my own cigarettes for nearly 50 years with a pocket roller and Top or ZigZag papers. Never used filters as did not like how they felt. I quit about 6 years ago and at that time was paying a penny a paper and $18 for a pound of natural unadulterated tobacco which would last 4 to 6 months. I think that sometimes the smoke and incense from the tobacco shops can penetrate through the plastic containing the loose tobacco and make it taste off, tried to avoid purchasing it from the stores that reeked of incense and smoke.

I agree that the rizla blues suck and I'm half way around the world from you. I'd try another brand and compare, around here most papers are better than those.

I used to use the silvers, they were fine, nice and thin, no taste about the same as elements as far as roll feel. Raw organics(black pack) are my go to these days, best papers I’ve ever used and cheap if I get em online $20/carton), normal price in stores

I've just found these...good to know it's probably the paper rather than the new baccy or the fact I've changed to non-menthol filters - I never used to buy papers so haven't bought any for years. It's kind of reassuring to know I'm not going crazy/getting an illness or something...

I've just bought some Zig Zag green, see how I get on with those and if the strange feelings/tastes go away...

EDIT: and also see what Rizla have to reply to my message asking what's happened...could be more of 1 particular chemical or 1 new chemical altogether which my body seems to be reacting to.

Should I go back to my old baccy/papers/filters until the taste and strange feeling goes away then start again with the Zig Zag papers do you think? (I don't want to go back to Amber Leaf if I can help it 'cos since first "lockdown" in march 2020 it's gone up from £23:80 to £27.60 a pouch and I get through 2 a week...I only work part time, and that equates to a full shift at work extra cost per month)

Come on, man. Go buy something different and report back.

If I understood correctly, you switched all 3 components at once; the papers, tobacco and filters. It's hard to determine which one is causing you issues. I suggest get a different brand of each part and interchange them until you narrow it down. It's also possible that you got an old batch. I used old papers and filters that became brown over the years, and they had a harsh taste like you describe. I also had a batch of tobacco that became moldy in just 48 hours.
