Hi.. i need some input

I have a flood and drain setup.. my plant is sitting in a rockwool cube and the tray is filled with hydro clay.. question is where.doee the.rockwool.cube thats.carrying my plant.sit?

1. Directly at the bottom of the tray surrounded by hydro clay and.covered.in it?

Or

2. Somewhat in the middle? With.hydro clay beneath the rockwool and above it?

The reason.i.ask is im not.too sure if.the water level raises high enough.to.come into.contact with rockwool.

Or do i.leave it.for.the.roots to find?

if i.put it.on the bottom of the tray will it harm roots? Etc

flood and drain setup watering 3 times a day.during light hours.for two minutes at a time.

Gee, I just put mine in so top of the cube was more or less even with the top of the hydroton. I was afraid of over watering early on so just did a drip and just now thinking about converting to the ebb and flow (they are 6 weeks veg).

I did have roots coming through the bottom of the 4 inch cube in 10 days from germination if that helps in the decision.

No idea on the rockwool, but you might want to look at using XPS board with 2" netpots.

The 2" netpots are like $.10 a piece and reusable, the Rapid Rooters are $.32 cents, the XPS board is $20 a sheet but reusable.

All you do is cut the XPS board so it fits tight around the ebb and flow table, then drill holes that the net pots fit in (only use 1" thick XPS board, if you use 2" the net pot will be above the water)

It's sweet because you don't have to buy Rockwool, or PH adjust anything, or worry about throwing out rockwool. You can also see the roots directly, and I would guess it gives more oxygen to the roots than other methods. It also keeps your roots / res cool, because XPS board blocks all the heat from the light. Best thing about this method though is that the XPS board stays dry and blocks light to the table, so you get almost no algae, and it's easy as hell to clean and doesn't create a habit for pests.

Flooding every 4 hours works with this method, though let frequent floods might make for longer roots.

Another advantage: A sheet of XPS is a couple hundred pounds lighter than a tray full of hydroton. Makes it damn nice when you need to reconfigure shit.
