well hopefully if someone wins who won't use/don't need the prize hopefully they will pick another farmer on here.
You should let folks over in the newb grower section here on RIU know about the contest:)

I would be more likely to give a vote for someone who is struggling, than someone with a 100,000$ grow room, but heck just cause someone has a nice room I don't think they shouldn't be able to participate in the contest:)

No doubt theres people who will do this.
Im not rich,I dont work as theres no work by me and no one wants peope with criminal records like mine but I get by ok.
Yes theres things I need but I can imagine aot of people like me will miss some thing to another person who could afford to go buy one.

Look in to peopes grows and ask what they got and use before you give them,try to be as fair as you can and give the people that are struggling more of a chance on winning some thing they may never be able to own rather then giving it to some one whos adding to there collection,already has one or can afford to go buy one.

This is a hard thing to do but try help those who need the help.
Some thing similar on seeds would be very nice.

You could have people post there equipment before you say whats up for grabs and then determine which people should be given the chance to win and to make it for do a seperate give away that caters for the peope who have one thing but not the other and let them try to grab what they dont have.
Basicly let me try get things they dont have or cant afford or most certainly need upgrading,example,in my equipment I have ph paper tester kit,theres a ph meter up for grabs,I can be allowed to enter as my ph kit is not to good but if I already have a ph meter I shoud not be allowed to enter and there for shoulld be considered for a different give away that I do need.

Get what im saying??
You should ask the shop whos giving the product away to deiver as you would of created many saes or directed many peope to there equipment threw the give away you have advertised for them.

I don't get the point of just having such a broad range of topics. So basically we just taking a picture of anything, but we must include one of the mentioned logos for proof purposes?

well no matter what the contest is someone is going to gripe. when the idea for the contest was being tossed around, and best bud was on the table, it started getting into a pissing match....

So I figured just let everyone do whatever they want to do with pictures, that way nobody gets left out, folks vote on whatever it is they like:)

Hey Sam, you should call up a couple companies, I am sure you will have just as good of luck as DJ & myself... :-P

I know some of you are skeptical about companies just giving away free stuff either to you or for the contest, but really its pretty simple in all honesty, here is why.

1.st off they can write it off a business expense, its not going to cost the company anything.

2.nd Most companies think they have the best product out there, so lets say a nutrient company hooks you up, and you like their nutrients and become a return customer in the long haul it works out great for the company. Free sample to possibly get a lifetime customer, def worth it for these companies, when they just write demos off.

3. Companies need honest feedback and constructive critism, all these companies have research and development teams, if your someone who can think outside the box and you give them some constructive feedback, it could significantly help the company out.
I gave ezclone, turbo klone, and powercloner some Great recommendations and I bet at least a couple of them will be on future models. :)

4. In every grow thread someone does on here where they list what nutrients they are using, they are basically advertising for that company, (Good or bad).
For instance, someone sees some killer nugs of mine, then they want to do what I am doing, The stinkbud thread is a perfect example of follow the leader:)

well, its a totally different industry so its hard for me to comment. Whats the worse that could happen, they say no and you lose couple mins of your time:)
Like Dj in this very thread called up ezclone and got a free cloner just yesterday.. guess it depends a lot on your confidence level as well

Plus if you think about it this is just one competition,
TO WIN, YOU HAVE TO TAG THREE COMPANIES IN A CREATIVE WAY THATS MORE EYE CATCHING THAN THE NEXT GUY.

I am going to say something along the lines of I currently own several (blah blah) and was thinking of making the change to your company but before I invest such a large sum I was wondering if you had a spare unit or extra that I could use to determine the quality of your product

for me.
1. I mention my magazine, sometimes send some of my articles, also mention you blog on very popular sites( heck RIU has 300,000 registed members).

2. Tell them what other companies have donated to you tests already ;)

3. Be polite and nice try and make them laugh.

4. I have about the same luck with emails and phonecalls btw... sooo for me its faster to email companies that to call:)

5.. I generallytest/review something over a longer period of time, generally I mention if they want they can RMA the package and I will return it to them when i am done with testing, Not once has a company been like " OK yes mail it back when you are done" everytime they are like don't worry about it just keep it.
I think this adds to my credibility the fact that I am offering to return said product when done with testing(obviously this don't apply to nutrients and such)

6. tell them you will let them know what you like about their product and what you like about the competitors products as well....Companies pay folks to do this in house, the fact that you are doing it for free somewhat off sets the cost of them sending you a promotional item

REMEMBER, they can write these things off as a tax write off, plus the actual cost of a product is always marked up, they may send you a 1,500.00 tv but it might only cost 300.00 to make it..

7. have confidence that YOU have something to offer them, In the grand scheme of things... Ez clone sent me a free cloner and they are donating a free cloner to the contest, in return I gave them some great feedback that I am sure they will implement on future models... that feedback could prove to be super valuable to them in the long run. So yah they hooked it up with a couple free cloners, but I hooked them up just as much with some great feedback/research/developmental ideas...
Plus now everyone thinks ezclone is cool as fuck especially after dj just got hooked up too.
This was mutually beneficial to ezclone and myself..

Hi Mary -

I don't post much here on RIU. I do however, do A LOT of reading, learning & a little laughing too....What I like about this thread is that you're breaking out & starting your own Mag, +rep for that alone!! I don't have any awesome frosty bud pics to offer (I'm struggling a bit with my current grow, but I'm figuring it out)....What I can bring to the table is a bit of Photoshop experience.

I'm sure that if you're in the process of publishing a mag, you have page layout, advertising & the like already squared away...My specialty is graphic design...Posters, logos, corporate ID, image enhancement & manipulation...that kind of thing.....

I'm not looking for freebies, just the chance to get in on the ground floor of something cool & exciting. PM me if you would like to see some examples of my work....Hopefully we can work something out
