I originally had this long post describing in detail the definition of Defense and Systems, but I doubt you would understand that either. People like you are stuck in one mindset. Payroll is the number one cost in the DOD, just as you said. That is probably true, I haven't checked the numbers lately since I have no more affiliations with the DOD. Since you work for the Government yourself, obviously you do because you know exactly what all the money is spent on, you would understand that a soldier is part of our Defense. If you say that soldiers are not a part of the overall DEFENSE SYSTEM that America has in place, then you are dumber than I thought. I'm not dodging anything, I'm just letting you know the real facts. When it comes to numbers and budgets, it doesn't matter what that money is spent on, it's the bottom line that counts. If the DOD wants to spend 500 billion on the payroll of soldiers, then that means they are using 500 billion of their budget to pay them. If you cut the budget, that means they have to make cuts somewhere in order to stay afloat.

Maybe you should start investing some of your spare time in learning a few new things before you try to dismantle someone elses comment.
