I know we have talked at length about the Texas congressman on RIU but I wanted to put my thoughts down as someone from the left. I consider myself a liberal for the most part, especially when it comes to social issues. I'm pro gay rights and pro women's choice and I would probably vote for Obama. However, I like Ron Paul and if he somehow wins the Republican Nomination I will have a tough choice on my hands. I like the fact that he wants to end the war on drugs, obviously I'm posting on RIU. I also like his foreign policy, which is end all wars and bring our troops home now. He is pro life and against gay marriage, BUT feels it should be controlled by the states and not by the federal government. So giving states the full authority on these issues is what many of us would want anyway. I'm not sure how his economic policies would work, cutting 1 trillion dollars worth of spending, but nothing anyone else has done has worked either. As a hardcore democrat I must say Ron Paul makes a lot of sense. Thoughts or opinions ?

All the things he is for, like pro gun, pro life, and anti gay rights are things I don't agree with. However he gets around by saying the control on those issues should rest with a state. So, if you vote liberal state officials into office you can get what you want on a social level. Even Bill Maher, a huge liberal, admitted Ron Paul makes a lot of sense.

His libertarian message definetly rings true to my ear... but obviously being a European im not too hot on his pro gun ownership stance and some of his other 'conservative' values.

Were pretty big on our rights over here monkey and the right to bear arms and own guns is one of them,you can take my guns when you pry them from my cold dead hands.do you also beleive they should outlaw cars or butterknives because you could kill someone with them?how about sticks and stones?inantimate objects dont hurt people other people do so why not address the root of the problem,its just not very smart to think an object no matter what is the root of the problem.

But is it really Legalization? Isn't Ron Paul a politician? You are going to reach more folks in the politics forum. Why not post about what you are doing yourself to legalize in your State? Rone Paul is running for President not leading us in Legalizing. You know what I mean this is a Legalization forum and Ron Paul isn't Legalization. Good Luck with the Dream in Politics.

If Ron Paul were to somehow win the nomination, and then beat Obama, then do what he says he will do. I guess it is a long shot, but he says day 1 he will work to stop funding the war on drugs. With out the 20 Billion dollars a year and unlimited resources no way the government can continue prohibition. Will he try and Legalize everything on a Federal level ? No. Will he cut off the 20 Billion dollars a year they War on Drugs gets now ? Yes.

I agree with you entirely, Honest Jim. Even the positions where I disagree with RP are just his opinions on various things. He is a staunch defender of the constitution and relegates to the states the social issues, which is where they belong.

Ron Paul is against abortion, for example, and his position is that abortion should be decided by state legislators. I agree with him on that point. RP is not "pro guns" as our European friend states above, he is pro constitution. The second amendment is an iron-clad garantee of American's right to bear arms, and RP recognizes that.

Ron Paul is almost the only politician on the American scene (Gary Johnson is another) who truly believes in the freedom of American citizens to control their own lives. RP's disdain for the war on drugs makes him the only politician in the two parties that I can vote for. If Ron Paul does not get the Republican nomination, then I will vote for Gary Johnson. A vote for either of the two hacks that are likely to get the nomination (Obama and Romney) is simply a vote to continue the status quo: endless useless wars on "drugs" and American empire building. The world would be a much better place if America quit forcing people to conform to stupid standards of morality and behavior.
