Room Temp to Hot

ok so hear is my problem;

i'm using a 6 foot x 6 foot walk in closet , it has no windows and i cant drill big ass holes in the wall for ventilation. i am using a 600 watt hps. the temp in the room (which still doesn't have any plants or water or fan in it yet) is about 100 degrees f, so i was looking into small portable a/c units. but the only ones i can find are like 5000 btu's and are around $250 which is totaly unnessisary because there ment for 200 sq foot rooms.

so do you guys (or girls) have any advice or ideas or links to a very small ac unit?

please help

You need to either get an AC or bust some holes in the ceiling/wall....pick your poison.If you have the cash get an AC -you should be able to order one for much less than 250.

Are you sure room is 100F sounds a little high for a little closet. Temp can be up to 89 F with no problems anything over 90 f is very bad. You can goto wally-world and by a portable AC it is for tents small rooms everything can find it with the rest of window ac units but 1 thing is it doesnt run on (free on ) dont know how to spell that but it is what makes air cool in ac 's it uses common ice cubes from your freezer and a fan that blows across the ice and the melting water collects in tank to mist it in the air if you choose it runs abou 70-100 dollars but look at it and make your own i say . Good luck from another small closet no windows random apartment inspections and a hot closet but mine maintains 73-80 f but i leave my door open so my apartment air can kinda keep it a little cooler .

Oh i bought one of those they work wonderful just gotta keep an eye on it. maybe set it on a timer which i didnt do it brought my closet down 36 f LOL but long story short i took it back and got my money back and bought supply with half the money and built my own..hope this helps a little bit or any at all.

LOL that solves the problem but if he is like me i cant have vent hoses running to my closet i have familey and friends that come over that i cant have them knowing the sweet heaven thats growing in the closet.

how often would i have to refill it with ice?

what size ice tray did it have?

ok so i figured out that i could take the door knob off the closet door so i can do some kind of ventilation (i know i should have thought of this before but i'm ...DERRR)... so should i make it an intake or an exhaust? i'm thinking exhaust since any crack like under the door or the unused lighting fixture in the ceiling can pull air in. but i'll still need to cool so if you could tell me more about this thing you speak of it would still be greatly appreciated.

You can buy a cheap door to fit the closet's door frame. Take the original off and store it. Put the replacement on and cut holes in it. You can hide the holes somewhat with the larger AC intake vent covers. You'll have to light proof from the inside if you do go this way. When finished or not growing, put the original door back on.

If the portable AC is the best option for your situation, make sure you are still venting/recycling fresh air.

At first the ice goes pretty quick but once you get room temp stable it can go i think i still had ice in mine after 6 hours . The temp is really only important if the air flow isnt good in other words better airflow the hotter plants can take i mean they grow in the desert ask ol bin laden lmao. so they can take some heat with enough air. Do you have a light fixture inside closet? like on the ceiling or any light at all? I let ya know about the door nob fan after you reply.

i have a 600 watt hps in there right now, i'm not starting my grow yet because i want the room working right first.

so your saying that if i have some ventilation and good air circulation in the room (meaning a good fan) i won't need to cool it?

Not reallly you dont wanna just move hot air around need to circulate it take old air out fresh air in. Idea if you have a normal light fixture in the closet you can take it down make sure power is off take it completely off leading to the attic or what have you and get a small exhuast fan and exhaust out that new hole save light and mark wires if you need then use your door handle hole idea or Billy's idea w/e works man just think alot of ppl growing in worst conditions than you are :-) but still growing...:-)

i really don't want to have to take the light fixture completely out... i don't know much about electricity or wiring, so i think using that as a exhaust is not such a good idea, especially because there are people above me and the smell might leak through the floor in i were to vent into it. but you think i could use the light socket as in intake without having to cut electricity and use the door knob hole to exhaust?

no way. u need more bigger holes than that.u definately need ventilation,trust me a had many many issues with heat. 7 plants died due to it. so think of some other ideas man,

if i used the air cooler as well as using the intake on the door?

i'm not gonna let anything happen to any plants... i gonna make sure the temp is good and stable before i start.

Yea man just try to get the room temp to normal growing temp and just open the door a few times a day go in and talk to ya plants :-) didnt know ya had neighbors above you sorry . just open door to refill fresh air inside try to get you an ionic pro or something like that cause your just not really able to get good air flow with out vent hoses. just keep thinking you;ll come up with something

omg im so lucky i took the panel out in my closet it is emergency shut off valve for tub where the hooked it up and thought i may run my vent in the wall and Sweet god of all mighty i saw this shiny vent tube goes right out the roof im just going to splice into it and there is my new exhaust.

You still may want to think about a carbon filter or Videoman's odor-removal device. A lot of people get caught by smell.
