Root aphids or soil mites?

Well, it's definitely not a mite. Mites have 8 legs and no antennae.

The larger pic makes it look like somewhat like a small beetle, but I'm no etymologist.

If you have many of these crawling around, I'd be concerned, but if it's just the one...I'd probably kill it and move on unless I found it was in fact a beneficial beetle.

What ever came of these insects??

I have discovered my vary own infestation of the exact bug.

Some winged and some not.

1 gal pot had hundreds of them dieing all around the pot and many more emerging from the topsoil.

What is the best plan of attack

Currently I have been spraying weekly with athena ipm, neem and bug bgone rotaing weekly

If you find out, let me know. I have them too. If I find out I'll let you know.

I believe they are root aphids.

Which is not good to have

And from my readings hard to kill

I'm picking up some botaniguard 22wp
As well as stepping up my spray game

yep both pictures are root aphids. Botanigard didn't work that well for me. I recommend just taking clones from everything and starting clean. You will just spend a lot of time doing root ball soaks every week. You can use imid if you want to veg for 2 months.

I use FFOF.

I was complaining about bugs in the soil at the grow shop. They explained bugs hop onto me while I'm out. Then when I'm in the bugs hop onto the plants first chance they get. There has been a few days in a row with freezing temps so I don't believe them.

What kind of soil do you use?

For my mothers I watered them with their nutrients to moisten the coco, then watered them with Monterey Once a Year Insect Control (5ml/gallon) to have it run out. I let them sit with it for 30 minutes and rinsed the coco with the nutrient solution. 2 days later, I did it again and they are all gone. A week later I saw some crawling out, but they were dying. It is systematic, so I know some people aren’t going to agree with this, but they are all gone. I couldn’t throw everything out and start over. I tried OG BioWar and Botanigard and it didn’t phase them.

Exactly what I did. Cloned all my moms and chopped everything down

I have more invested In IPM than most LP's yet I still get bugs.
I'm naive and trust ppl when they say their cuts are clean.

Fak that
No more.

FFOF has had some doozies of fucked up bags of soil. From bugs to a fish hook.

I stopped using it.

i use FFOF. i keep aphids away by spraying the soil and underneath the leaves with neem oil. i released ladybugs to hunt down and kill aphids. i also planted mint and spearmint in the same soil to repel aphids and promote plant competition which promotes root growth.

Do these efforts eradicate root aphids though?

root aphids are notoriously difficult to get rid of without heavy hitting Chems.

How do you keep the lady bugs from getting ground-up in your exhaust fan? Or clogging your carbon filters?

i try and keep everything organic like mother nature intended and have living things balance everything out. its also nice to create your own ecosystem and creating competition among living things. i was also thinking of adding lacewings and/or a preying mantis, but i dont really need to go that far into recreating an ecosystem.

i dont worry about that. everything is fastened pretty tight, and there is no reason for ladybugs to go there. all the other ladybugs that escape my tent fly towards my clone chamber or window.

I'd consider getting Pro-MIX next time around. Which soils are you switching too?

I use nothing else but this now.

Blue indoor red outdoor

Which I messed up on on my 1st indoor grow. I used the outdoor stuff and it is just tons hotter. So it slowed shit down for 10 days or so. But fully thriving now.
