yeah i know i have spent hours lookin at pics and reading through threads and their are so many species....and i fuckin thru the bug away like a stoner but i did not see any "pinchers" on its ass. i have spent a lot of time cultivating random spots on random plants soil and would watch that specific spot for 10 - 15 min and didnt see any larvae....so i dont beleibve i am infested however i just picked up a lil go gnats by general hydro.... prolly could have bought a gallon but it was 150$$$ .... i dont have that so i bought a 50 dollar bottle... enough for one decent soil drench and a light foliar.... i have a couple in flower \buit no more than 2-3 weeks.... i hope this shit takes care of or atleast manages thse bastards... i cant spend 500 or 350 haha

The camera used is a noisey point-and-shoot that has never captured color accurately
This is afghani kush, read the PS from my post above. I was just showing how the root aphids affect the plants.
They are deficient in everything, they are all showing some degree of chlorosis.
Although everything else looks bad the buds look OK.
These have two and a half weeks to go. Then begins the deep clean.

This round is beyond repair, don't even worry about it. What's done is done.

IMID and Orthene in rotation are the only way to go, that is if you really want to get rid of these little fuckers.

And, by the way, these will flat out kill your plants if let go too long and google is your friend.

So i keep hearing of IMID and Orthene, etc.. But ive never seen them in stores.. Where do i get these products, and what do they contain? Ive heard tree and shrub works best. But maybe im wrong. Anyway so what are these products?

Imidacloprid is the active ingredient in Bayer Tree and Shrub. Can be found at Lowes, Home Depot in the gardening section. I've battled root aphids TWICE in hydro, and Bayer tree and shrub BLASTS these little fuckers thoroughly. Just yesterday I found I had root aphids in my 4x4 flood drain ScrOG. Knew from experience that Bayer works, and I had some from my last grow so I put the boots to em. I use 8ml per gallon in my reservoir, and let it go for 12 hours. Just make sure you use a jug to pour through your net pots, or whatever if you can not submerge your medium. I raise the flood level on my table to completely cover the medium, and go about an inch up the stem. They will try to run from the shit. As soon as I put it in the system they will all start coming out of the medium to get away from it. They're scared of the shit. They know it's no joke. If someone says Bayer didn't work for their root aphid problem, I would think their problem probably isn't root aphids because this stuff is liquid death in my experience. My entire res (40gal) turns green and brown with dead root aphid scum in under 12 hours. I then clean the entire system, and flush the system for 3 hours with tap water drain to waste style while I scrub the table, and rez. Refill with fresh nutes, and add H202(regular 3% store stuff) 10 milliliters per gallon which cleans up the roots, and seems to help them recover pretty quick. That sucks you had to toss your shit. I know all people don't jive with using Imidacloprid, but the shit is killer and keeps them gone. Once the Root Aphids are gone they will not come back in the current grow. I blasted them in my first grow, and never saw another one. Now I'm on my second grow and got em again, but I don't expect them to come back after this treatment. Probably because it's a systemic chemical, and a certain amount stays in the rez or plant at high enough level to keep em gone.
Bayer Tree and Shrub will definitely blast root aphids, but it's a systemic chemical that not everyone is comfortable using. Compared to the price of other shit that's out there I chose a 15 dollar bottle will last almost forever.
Here's a link to my situation. Just posted it today. Bayer Tree and Shrub = Death to root aphids.

Hope this helps.

Ahh ok so Imid' is just shorthand for the active ingredient in Bayer Tree & Shrub. Gotcha.
I was wondering wtf everybody was talking about lol, but anyway now i know. thanks.

Yea it sucks i had to toss everything and restart, but honestly they were in such bad shape
by the time i knew what the problem was that it wasnt even worth trying to revive them.
In fact one of them completely shriveled up and died completely, out of nowhere. It was crazy.
The rest of them were droopy, dropping leaves, yellowing, burning, showing other symptoms, etc.

This time around things are going so far so good. Still young, but looking forward to a good grow
and hoping for the best. But i have a few quick questions (sorry if any of them have been answered):

-When/if i use Bayer T&S, how badly does it affect my plants? Does it stunt them? Show visible damage? etc?
-How long does it stay in the plant? In other words, how far from harvest should it be used (at the latest)?
-How many flood/drain cycles should i let it run in the system before changing the reservoir out?
-If i notice just a minor case above the surface, can i spray it on them? or do i HAVE to irrigate it fully?

Thanks.

1) If it stunts or kills your plants, they were too far gone anyway.
2) Some say only on mommies and clones. Some say not to use it in flower. Some say no later than 30 days of flower. Disgression is the better part of valor!! I would say 60 days.
3) Shouldn't need to run more than one or two floods in rockwool and maybe 4 or 5 in hydrotone.
5) Do not spray.

The first thing, is you need to get a jewelers loupe and a USB microscope and confirm that you have the little bastards. (yellow sticky traps are your friend. They are the easiest way to spot them, unless you can look at the bottoms of your rockwool blocks or sift through your hydrotone. If you can see them on the pots, it's really really bad, same with fliers.
Then you need to read up on how to use these pesticides and formulate some safety precautions.
There is a really good thread of a hundred or so pages on root aphids over on icmag. I suggest you read it.

In the end, the yield was 0.1875 grams per watt. That is terrible.
62.5 % was lost due to root aphids and I treated them extensively.
It looks alright though. I don't have a good camera to show.

I feel your pain, I lost half my mommies and a couple of sub standard harvests to these little bastards before I figured it out.

Ouch, 0.1% thats rough man.. Im sorry to hear that.
I havent seen any of these bastards yet in my new grow, since restarting, so im keeping my fingers crossed that they dont show up again. Hopefully its passed their season or whatever..

Just thought I would drop back in ya I still got these fuckers i have been doing rotations of bug b gone max malathon and cyfluthrin even found some diazinon left over did a drench with that figured that would wipe these things out nope so every three days I mix up drench even if they don't need water my fliers in flower room are very minimal actually have'nt seen any in a about 5 days but I know better than to think they are gone . I'm hoping my yields won't be too horrible as I'm not just letting these things do whatever they want . The every three day drench is getting old some days I just want to say Fuckit and start over but have too much time and expense in this grow to ditch it shoulda known better than to put all my eggs in 1basket !!

Hope everything works out for you bro. Sounds pretty nasty, but hopefully your yield wont be affected too much :/

Thanks bro the plants actually look ok for the most part shitty thing is can't really start another room to compensate for the loss cause they will just fuck those up too:cry: I'm thinking they would be much easier to kill in hydro system cause they would come into contact with the chems several times daily but who knows for sure . Hope they stay away from ur new grow .

So can anyone verify that the met 52 does not work? I had root aphids shut everything down, and i still see fliers.. I'm in all organic dirt, and I mixed 7 grams of met 52 per gallon.. The plants are all green but they are in veg, and you know that they dont show ill effect s till flower.. I put them straight into 3 gallon smart pots innoculated with met 52. I have only seen 1 or 2 fliers in my room so i'm spraying with azamax foliar at night.. I'm CONSIDERING bayer, but I dont want it too kill my met 52 because that would defeat the purpose of going the 'organic' route.. any suggestions of what goes well with met 52.. Just pyrethrium TR bombs, or hot shots Raid bombs? and yellow stickies
