~~Root Pruning In DWC Hydro?!! Bubbleponikz Explained!!~

Ok..so I have a brand new DWC hydro system..it is pretty small,with only about 2 gallons of usable reservoir space..there are space for 8 plants..in 3in net pots filled with hydroton..It has a air pump and airstone..and works nice..I plan on having 8 plants in there..grown sog style..however the reservoir space is quite small for 8 pl;ants...so can I trim the roots whenever they get too big?I mean just trimming about 40-50% rootmass..I assume this wont cause too much stress to the plants..and the roots wil just gorw back again?...I dont want the reseervoir cpmpletel;y filled with rootmass..so Ill just trim them when it gets too big..this is the same principle as bonsai plants..root pruning..the roots feel like they still have alot of space before they get rootbound,so they grow faster?So \can I do this?...

i don't think it will be good for the plant. You will have a decent amount of space with the 2 gallon. Just let them grow.

Trust me..if I allow them to just grow..the entire reservoir will be a mess wfull of roots..so I want to be able to just prune them..so they can growq,and there still be empty space in my reservoir..so what so you guys??

Sure you can cut the roots. In fact it's good for your plants.
Long root systems are not needed in a Hydro system.
Why? because all the nutes are right there.
in the wild (soil) a plant has to have long root systems
seeking out water and nutes. think of root pruning like topping your plant
when you cut your roots more roots will sprout out.

Wow excellent..so should I just leave a rather small rootmass per plant..since it is a bubbleponik system...

you only wanna cut off about 1/3 of whats there.
I didn't cut my tap root, just the feeder roots coming off the tap root.
your roots are gonna grow alot no matter what.
you'll have to watch them prune them ever week or two
Just do a little bit the first time, the more you do it
the better you'll get at it.
yep you'll have a more compact root system

So..should I just prune the roots every time they get too big fot the reservoir??I plan on keeping my mothert plants on the actual DWC system..thatsn what Ill use the hydriopnic system for..also can I use alaska fish fert for hydropinics??

Ok..maybe Im not ready to fuck with DWC hydro yet..either way I grow in coco coir/perlite..using hydro nutes..so in a way I DO grow hydro...but Im uase my small DWC systme to grow my mother plants..Ima have 8 small bonsai-style mothers in there..and just keep the res. full of good veg nutes..then every opnce a month,Ill trim the roots like youre supposed to with bonsai momz..does this sound good?Atleast Ill find a very good use for the small system..a pretty nice dam way to keep mother plants if u ask me...

I see it has been a while since any posts here, wondering how the hydro bonsai moms are doing.

I am wanting to experiment with something similar to this using recirculating DWC. I am in the process of converting everything over to hydro. I already successfully transplanted a 6 month old soil bonsai mom to DWC. and she is looking awesome.

Ok I had this recently with DWC setup. I had a Shite scenario, 4/5 pants turned out to be male and root rot too. I got rid of males and decided the female would be a case study for future knowledge. First I lifted her up and sprayed her hard with my shower nozzle (7.3ph and 79ppm) until I’d washed off as much brown shit as I could. Then I sprayed her with a hand spray of H2O2. I thought hey, as. Long as I’m finding ways to kill this poor thing I might as well trim the roots too, so I cut off half the roots (start of flowering and plenty roots) just in a straight line across.
Then, I put her back in a clean bucket with just water, and proceeded to cut back the vegetation, removing all the flowering tips, and generally creating a futuristic multi headed beast for the future. She is currently in day 5 of 24hr light cycle to reintroduce veg, and looks very happy, leaves are praying and shoots are emerging.
