root question @ 5 weeks veg

I have a few plants (dutch dragons and an afgan)that are about a month old. Ive been using the 1000w Hortilux blue (bad mama jama) and i am pleasantly surprised. I ve allready uppotted once to the 3 gal.

My concern is that i have the potting containers sitting on the plastic and my taproots, i believe, are just chilling on the nasty floor. I know obviosuly i need water trays...any input here. They are quite healthy and stink a bit allready..mmmmm.

Move them to a larger pot

unless you have limitations, re-pot to something bigger. but, you will end up with roots once again coming out of the bottom, it's really no big deal. if you do put something under the containers, make sure there isn't an accumulation of run-off in there. you don't want the plants wicking up the run-off.

The one in the foreground, that i snapped the photo of. Nothings "hard" to grow. You just have to give a shit and its easy. There will be a little trial and error, just like anything else. It doesnt hurnt to browse this site a few hours a day though. lol.\

Just put the first pot into a second pot of the same size so there's two pots in one. One with a hole in it for roots, the other without that hole for roots. Kinda like an Ebb & Flo bucket system but without hoses or connectors.

I had the same problem with some of my plants when they were in 1 gallon pots. When I moved them to larger square pots with the runoff holes on the sides of the bottoms of the buckets this problem never crept back up! I'm willing to bet that the holes being on the sides prevents the taproots from feeling inclined to browse outside of the dirt. With the holes being on the bottom they have a dark, often damp place to go poking around in. This would be your floor. XD

If the cement is cold - basement - definitely get the root ball up on something. A cold root ball will slow development, like putting the plant into stasis.
