Root rot in bloom? Please help me find a solution.

Hello everyone. I am growing in a hydroponic setup and I have all the information on my growing solution and other specifications in the last thread that I posted along with the lots of pictures of my plants multiple problems.

I don't know why but I got a root problem while I am in my first week of bloom. It looks really bad and my roots are all yellow and weak.

When I first pull my roots out of my tank they usually look like this:


After I clean them off a bit with water they look like this:


This morning I saw a shocking droop in my whole plant:


The size of my root mass at 2 1/2 months of age in a 3 inch net pot:

Doesn't it look small to you?
(That is her holding tank while I clean out her 4 gallon reservoir)

Why is this happening to her?!

It has progressed to this point in the course of two days. Why is this happening so fast?! What should I do?


She looks like she is going to die.

Really warm I haven't bought a water cooler yet, do you think its heat stress from the tank being to hot? I still need to buy a water thermometer and a water temp moderator thingie.

I will tomorrow! Now I feel really bad for not doing it sooner! :cry:

What temperature should it be at?

for hydro systems the temp of the water should not be any hotter than 75...but I have heard of people gettin by with it being a little hotter. But I recommend keeping temps at 75ish

I run mine at around 80+ cause of the heat of the room. I bought some cooler packs to decrease it. The hygrozyme is supposed to help support higher temps, so I spent 20 some dollars on a small bottle of it. No problems. Lots of air helps too.

yo star, what lighting are you using, and what system are you on?
when your lighting doesn't penetrate, the lower leaves get discolored and then crunchy then wilt...as for root rot; is you're on DWC, make sure your airstones are producing enough bubbles, i use bubble curtains bc they never clog with mineral deposits and such. also make sure you roots aren't exposed to light of any kind. just make sure your roots aren't drowning, bc when leaves droop like that it's one of 2 things that MAY happen...1) wilt, dry and die bc no water (like the pic below) or 2) overwater, stunt growth, droop and drown...

I have some new information regarding these questions. Last night when I took the droopy pictures the light had been on for its 12 hours. Then this morning when I opened my chamber to look at her, after her 12 hours of darkness, she was all perked back up again. All the leaves that were sagging and curling under on both sides were perked back out and flat again!

I took some pictures this morning.Check out the major difference:

It can't be healthy for a plant to fluctuate like that...

Heat induces the growth of anaerobic bacteria and thus root rot, fix the temp issue, and buy "Hygrozime", ASAP! Nothing does what this stuff does, and I have tried a LOT of products (hence my credit rating). Also get some superthrive and Hydroguard, the superthrive will help it rebound from the stress and help new, healthier roots to form. The hydrogaurd is beneficial bacteria to help prevent root rot in the future. The Hygrozime is not cheap stuff but it is a unique product and nothing beats it. You could do without the superthrive and hydrogaurd if your trying to save some cash but I would recommend them so your harvest schedule isn't thrown too far off.

Use this stuff and you will have white, healthy roots in no time!

I am using a 250 W HID bulb above my 4 gallon hydroponic DWC system. I have a 8 inch air diffuser below my roots and the whole plant is effected in this wilting problem not just the bottom.

Thanks for the info, do you know if all of these three products would be alright to use together in a tank with hydrogen peroxide in it? Or when I buy these should I not add the H202 in it anymore?

Well my local shop didn't have any of those products sadly and I wanted something that I could use immediately to solve some of my problems.
Have you heard of the product SM-90 by Nutrilife? That is what my hydroponic store owner friend recommended to me.
SM-90 has these ingredients: 1.0% Coriander Oil, 94.0% Sulphonated Canola Oil Solution, and 5.0% Triethanolamine.
Is this just as good? I am going to try it in my rez and I am going to freeze some half filled water bottles in the freezer. He said that would defiantly help to float some of those in the water if its to hot.
Has anyone tried the frozen water bottles to cool there rez?

The temperatures in my grow room are high. In the room when I opened it after the light had been on all day the temp was 98 F and I bought a water temp gauge this morning and left it in the rez all day. When I returned the rez was 88 F. What are more appropriate temps for my room? My rez should be around 75 F right?

Are the roots suspended in the solution? I just place my cooler packs beside the rez on the outside so they dont' damage the roots.
