sancho,Jack I think youve done this before, man i think i did create dry pockets in these 3 BGs by letting them dry to much, I cant seem to get the pot as heavy as my others. I used a 50/50 split of perlite/blackgold organic which has perlite in it as well, I water from the top and let so much run off that i bottom feed as well then i make sure there blocked up and never sitting in water. is there any remedy other than increasing my water/feed scedule?
What you can do to get those dry pockets to re-wet themselves is to give them a good soak with plain water that has 2 or 3 drops of Ivory Dish Soap / gallon in it. And then let them sit in that run off for an hour or two to make sure everything has a chance to suck up plenty of water. Kind of like watering from the bottom up. The soap will act as a wetting agent. But after that get them blocked back up so they can drain good. Then the trick is to never let them get that dry again.
With 50% perlite in your mix I'm guessing your soil is pretty loose and probably requires more frequent watering than most mixes. I've probably got around 15% perlite and 15% vermiculite in mine. I'm not saying that's better it's just what I'm playing around with this time.
