Roots growing on top of soil!

Okay, so i have a plant that has been doing good so far with no obvious problems but, today as i was watering i noticed a little root coming out of the soil,i pul it up a bit slightly and see that it is connected to my main stalk,it wasnt even under the soil, its like it just popped out over night, i continue to investigate and look around at the soil and there are multiple ( a shit load) of root tips just berely coming up out of the soild.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this?
i thought that all root systems were suppost to grow down ward, "gravotropism".
Mine are defying the laws of gravotropism!

It's normal the roots will fill the whole container usually they stay just under the surface you must keep your soil moist.

never had that problem, mite need to soak the soil good possably the soil dry a little ways down or soil compacted to tite try lossing it up a little hope this helps if not tite or dry put more soil over the roots light will kill roots

thanks for your responses, i heard of a guy who this hapend to him and he said that when one of the roots stuck out it started growing in to its own plant!

I have had a root showing for a couple weeks as well, but I've just let it be, since it is not causing any grief.
Last night, I noticed another one popping up, so I'm thinking getting rootbound, or pot at least full, and I'm in a 5 gal. pot with a 2 1/2 month old plant, so check your pot....... see if you're full.
