yes, fox farms soils seem to be much worse. And I used that M3 mix once and holy wa infestation! only stuff I ever used that didnt have atleast 1 gnat in it was TGA base soil I ordered 2 bags of and got shipped to my house. I now empty base soil bags into trash cans just like my SS mix and treat with a mild drench of azomax and mix in a a few cups of DE.

Just pre treat the soil use a few sticky traps and stay up on your IPM and you will be fine. Fungus gnats are just part of the soil game well....shit i got them when I ran an aero setup as well but either way don;t be freaking out over gnats man! they are easy to rid. On another note I think I am going to make up a few different base soils from scratch 2cuft each and testing them I am thinking about using coco as the main medium in the soil and stay away from dirty compost/peat and to be more sustainable.

I've had my fair share of gnats and thrips when using Roots Organic Original recipe. Like resinxtractor said, both are easy to get rid of. I've had success using spinosad as a foliage spray.

i personally have never seen thrips in my garden. Maybe its a regional thing. Im in NWL MI near the 45th parallel.

i have had almost every root bug (FG, RA, Thrips, Bulb mites, springtails). no soil is "bug free". so you have to have some kind of system in place to take care of them at early age before the colony gets overwhelming in flowering when its more dificult to do anything and your roots are destroyed, leaving you with 10-50% of normal harvest.

this year i am using preditor bugs. just added hyposasis FG preditors and nemitodes. to my 1 gal pots
also adding MET 52 for RAs
