Roots

Please help.

I have been growing two white widows seedlings under 15w lamps in root riots. The plants are coming along fine with 18/6 lighting. However there is no sign of any roots coming from the bottom of the root riots. I know about the root forumlas on the market but as I understand it the plants shouldnt need them as the rr's already contain nutes.

Please help.

Sorry

That was a bit vague, can anyone help me with developing the roots so they are big and strong enough to be transferred to an NFT

Thanks

Only time will help. It takes a couple of weeks in ideal conditions for a cutting to root well.

Warm and moist, and a little Vitamin B1 in the water, something like SuperThrive. I root cuttings on 24 hour light for the first 3 weeks.

Clones are hard to make. You dont know how many hundred clones I have executed. The enviroment has to be just right. Too much humidity and they will mold or grow fungus. Too much water and they will rot. Too much light and they will burn and shrivel up. Thats why floros are the best for clones. You really cant give them any nutes(besides superthrive or a root hormone) till they start to root. My worst problem is not letting the my rockwool cubes get dry enough. I get excited and end up watering them early. And they wouldnt seem to do anything at all. I have been doing a lot better lately. If you think you are about to lose them you should put them in an oxygenated glass of water. I like to use a bottle and a air stone. Sometimes when I have a clone that wont take, that usually gets it going.

Try this Cheapo-Aero Cloner:

Buy a five gallon RubberMaid tub with a lid. Get a 1 7/8" hole saw. Drill 20 holes in the lid. Put two 6" air stones on the bottom of the tub using double sided tape. Hook the air stones up to a dual air pump using clear air hoses. Buy 20 2" net pots. Dip your cuttings into Rooting powder and put them into 1" RockWool cubes. Put the cubes and cuttings into the net pots. Put the net pots into the 1 7/8" holes. Fill the tub up with RO water until the water is about 1/8" from the bottom of the net pots. The bubbles breaking on the surface from the airstones will be enough moisture to bring the roots out. No nutes, no nothing ... just plain RO water. Now, using two, twenty watt, two foot flouros in a reflector ... hang that over your tub. Run the lights and air pumps 24/7. This will get you close to 100% success rate on your cuttings. No dome, no misting ... just wait for the roots to come out in about ten days. Then ... transplant to your main system.

PS: Everything I've listed above (except the cuttings, net pots and RockWool) is available at WalMart. Check the aquarium section. Be sure to use a ONE AND SEVEN EIGHTHS INCH HOLE SAW. IF YOU USE A TWO INCH HOLE SAW, THE TWO INCH NET POTS WILL JUST FALL THROUGH THE LID.

Hello

Thanks for quick reply and brilliant advices, I understand the aero walkthrough. But if you could explain the oxygenated water bottle a bit more for me that would be really helpful i.e will I need a air pump etc etc.

Thanks alot for all your help

forget the aero - waste of cash... Go to hydrowholesale.com, buy yourself a seedling heat mat and use it... Also, if you allow the rootriots to somewhat "dry out", only for a day or two to allow the roots to search for water creates a mass abundance of roots. Make sure they never get too dry though, since seedlings are very fragile.

Make sure the bottoms of the leaves get mist, they love it

Thanks for your help mate

Showed first roots today, other plant looks red raw. Either it's been doing something it shouldnt or its not very well.

Cheers

cutting usualy take between 10 an 14 days to root simple roottone and b1 is the way to go 1 teaspoon of b1 pergallon is perfect high humidity about 80 or 90 % is where you want it and floros is the way to go not to harsh for the little ones 24/o light cycle after they take root if they start to droop real bad after 14 days get them out of your cloning chamber and but a fan on them so it flufs the leave with breeze but dont make them blow around just a light flutter of leaves is good that increases stem and root development within a week you will have to transplant

to each his own but I could never go back to cloning and the failures after using an ez clone... everything roots in the thing.

I firmly believe that adding a ultrasonic fogger to the rez with only half the rez full will produce roots in two to three days. I had to cut all my roots on my plants cause of root rot and this is how I managed to save them and I kid you not I had strong, long, voluptuos roots in two or three days>>>
