So I've recently been getting into rosin pressing and one of the things I'd like to investigate more is curing or, I've seen it called online, jar tech.
Last week I pressed out about at eighth of rosin. Freshly pressed it was hard and tacky, very difficult to work with.
I tossed it on my seedling heating mat with no further treatment, left it there for a few days, and it transformed the rosin into a more buttery texture. I wish I'd taken pics when I had more of it left, but it was good stuff!
A few days ago I pressed out some more rosin from the same plant. This went straight into a jar with a metal lid, and then into my toaster oven set to ~220. I didn't set a timer or really watch, I suspect I left it in there a bit longer than was ideal but when I came back it was pretty much a liquid consistency. I placed this on the heat mat as well and left it for a couple days, and I'm left with a thicker honey-like consistency, it almost feels like shatter when you let it warm up. It still smokes great, though I'm not impressed with the terpene profile on this plant's extract.
I'm not really sure what my ideal consistency is yet, I think of the two I liked the more buttery consistency I got from just a few days on the heat mat without a quick run through the oven. Both of these, however, are pretty easy to get into my nail and not too difficult to work with.
What consistency do you like for your extracts? How do you achieve it?
