rumors we heard before we started growing

Your right as RAIN.
However, I think the [flushing] is centered on indoor growers.
They use many chemicals that outdoor growers would never use.
So in their case, I would flush.
Flushing is no big deal.

Some of my favorites (Sorry if theyre doubles, I only had time to read 30 or so pages)

-Utility companies report any unusually high usage to the authorities. (only true if you are stealing it, otherwise you really think they want to risk getting LESS money from you? Puhlease!!)

-48 hours of darkness before harvest causes the buds to swell. (Absolute horseshit, I have tried it with and without on multiple strains under the same conditions otherwise.)

-CFLs dont get hot. (In fact, per watt they get HOTTER than the average HID considering the ballast for a CFL is connected to the bulb whereas most HID users use a remote ballast.)

-Growing in a Rubbermaid or cardboard box is safe. (I dont care how broke you are, there is no excuse for combining high heat and plastic/cardboard to save a few bucks. Especially when you are already risking a lot by growing period. Every Rubbermaid or Cardboard contraption Ive seen is an inevitable fire waiting to happen. Most people upgrade soon with good reason.)

All I can think of now, so many thousands more. The main thing you have to realize is there are 2 sides to every story. Like with "plants wont grow over 90F", this is somewhat true indoors unless you are pumping in C02. Outdoors they have an abundance of C02 no matter the temp, indoors there is less and high heat causes all plants to "breathe" slower, taking in less C02. Over 90F will still grow plants indoors, just very slow compared to a perfect 76-78F.

A lot of other situations are like this, and people only take away a one sided approach because they are too lazy to read into it for themselves. By the way, Ed Rosenthal's MJ Grower's Handbook is the most fantastic piece of modern literature when it comes to any and all of these subjects, and then some.

Never meant any offense to anyone

none takin.

i dont want to argue the flushing ting anymore i think it is a growers personal choice weather they do it or not. and as for scientific proof well just do a comparison for your self and do it properly. i for one can say i can and always have noticed the difference in taste and smoothness of properly flushed weed and un flushed weed.

One thing I can tell you is that a good friend of mine used probably 2 to 3 times more nutes than he should have on 2 separate grows, 1 month apart from each other. He knew nothing about flushing when he harvested the first batch, and even after weeks of drying it was nearly impossible to keep it lit. It tasted very funky and burned into a brown gunk instead of white ash.

Since he had a month left on the next round, he backed the nutes off like usual but flushed the last week. That bud tasted right and burned much better. Not trying to support one side or the other, just saying flushing clearly can do SOMETHING, and as mcpurple said, its a growers personal choice. To say it does absolutely nothing is as silly as saying it makes your yield double.

flushing through out growth is absolutely needed. preharvest flush, to each their own. Its all about leaching your container of unwanted salts, that build up. so.... why wouldnt you do it before you are about to smoke it?

I water so that runoff comes out of the drain holes for a few seconds, which is not technically flushing, and my bud has always been top notch. Never had any harsh taste and its always burned just right. But I use very few nutes. Nutes are another thing I think most indoor growers go way overboard on, especially with how ridiculous their prices are sometimes.
