Running MH and HPS at the same time -

I just ordered a dual bulb reflector assembly for my grow tent. I am currently running a single 400 watt HPS for 2 flowering plants, but things are stretching a little more than I like. I have a 250W MH ballast sitting dormant and will be using that for my second bulb in the reflector. Total of 600-650 watts, which will be about perfect for the space I have.

Anyone here run a set up like this? If so, did the multiple spectrum light help much?

it should do.. think of all the different light rays the plant could utilize my next hydro grow wil be done with a 400w mh and a 400 watt hps with 2 fluros (long ones not cfls. im thinkin bout getting four in thre tho and getting two more for rooting clones or starting seedlings :)

heaps of people advise growing with a mix of the two when possible... i say do it :)

Sweet! Like the idea of the flouros for addtional. I have my sprouting space decked with 8 24" T5's. They work wonders for starting plants out as they do not get super hot.

How big is your space?

dont have one atm sorry to say but i do have a nice 1152 dollar fine im paying off lol.. i got raided not to long ago so yeah that kinda fucked me over a bit id say :(

That sucks! Just keep it clean and steer clear of any more fineage...hopefully it is just a fine that you have to deal with, as bad as that is.

but back on track heaps of people even the dvds ad that reckon that a mixture of mh and hps os the best option :)

so you should be happy :)

I should have my new reflector on Tuesday. I just finished wiring up my 250W system, so it is ready for install. Cannot wait!

Hey, having dual specctrums is always good if not better, but just to let you know...400watts is more than enough for 2 plants.
Just get them as close as you can and they wont stretch as much, i have mine at 12 inches.

I have mine at about 10" now. The reflector I have is pretty basic. The light pattern is too centered anyway. When I started looking at my options, I came up with the plan to run dual spectrum. Overkill for now maybe, but it will work for me on future grows.

with 800 watts of HID the flourecents wont be doing much to help, if anything just get in the way and shade the plants from the big lights...

im thinking sides or bottom perhaps ive got a few ideas where i think i should be able make it work and the fluros beneficial. thats y i said i may needa get some more. working with less light i wanna figure out a good way to maximise growsppace and light distribution.. not sog or scrog

too many ideas i was just stating to the bloke that a big mix is among my plans.

i had 2000 watts origionaly so never had to worry

yep that will work.my 2nd grow during flower i ran my 400wtt mh with my 100wtt hps. this grow just the 1000wtt hps. im noticeing a bit begger buds running the two light together. :mrgreen:

yea I have a duel 400w reflector and ballest.. it works out great and will produce tight nugs on the tops and sides exposed to the rays, but it will raise your temps about 7-10 degrees more then just running 1 400w bulb. Also you might what to move the light up, until you find a good spot where the plants like it.

mygirls, that is definitely encouraging!

BiG PuFFer, been thinking about that. I am adding an additional exhaust fan to the tent to make up for the extra heat generated. I will most likely seal and air cool the fixtures.
