Right now I'm using a reservoir as a way to bottom feed my plants mainly water its working out pretty well, I also make sure to run the container dry to get rid of any standing water.

I'm pretty much going for nice moist soil and dry container before I add more water to it. but yea I don't like standing water especially if its not aerated.

Let's start again.
I grow in 4 gallon buckets that sit in Tupperware tubs. When I water, I vacuum out the runoff water that collects in the Tupperware - is that what we're talking about?

When I water my plants I allways achieve 30% run off... I water them in a bucket but standing on a tub then water my grass outside with it lol I have the best looking gras+garden on the estate ;)
I never did that on my first grow as soon as it dripped from the bottom I left it on a tray and that's when the deffs + excess nutes and PH issues, since then I waterd with run off all the way its a waste for my medical plants but frikkin awesome for the garden grass and plant's.
What's one plants waste is another plants treasure

Your should never use water that has been run through a pot to water another plant of the same family. There is a risk of transferring diseases and possibly harmful bacteria. Best to just dump it on the ficus.
