dude

dont feed them any nutes yet!!!!!
most likely you gonna kill them, the plant is pretty sensitive at this stage

as long as you grow them in dirt they wont need any nutes for the first few weeks

i have a feeling youre watching them too much :), just as i did when i started
sonn youll learn that if you follow some basics steps the plant will grow anyway

Ah, I thought it was fine to feed a little nutes after a week, but I'll hold off for a couple more weeks in that case.

You're right about me watching them too much though, i need to not worry about it so much and let them actually grow.

How much do you think i should be watering them though? I don't want to overdo it so I'm only watering the big one like once a day, and not so much that it leaks out the bottom, and the little ones i just mist the top of the soil with a spray bottle every few hours to keep it moist.

well first read as much as you can
this forum is gonna help a lot, the FAQ even more

regarding the watering...best is to fully water them (untill water comes down) and than let the soil dry
experiment and the plant will tell you what it needs
its a common tendency for beginners to over water, let the soil dry i think the most common is every other day

I'll just leave it dry until the plant droops a bit from needing water, that should tell me how often to water.

You guys think it would be alright if I put a 100W incandescent in there just for extra light? or is it just a bad idea?

They're all dieing. I overwatered them and now the roots are rotting and growing fungus. I'm leaving them dry for a few days and hopefully they recover, but its not looking good.

If they do die however, its not that big of a deal. I'll only have lost 2 weeks, and I have a whole new bag of seeds that look promising.

It will be a disappointment if they die though, and a lesson learned.

I've got a thread going in the Problems forum.

Well its day 29 and my plants look like their only a week in, but two are starting to grow again; the first one to sprout up and the last one to sprout. Strange coincidence or something, but anyway here's some pics.

Hopefully they keep growing and get nice n big for me.

I took out the base unit so I have space for 4 more plants. also raised the lights up higher because I had people telling me they're too close (even though they felt cool enough to me) so we'll see if that does any good.

I have 6 more seeds germinating, but hopefully only 4 of them crack cause I don't have enough lights to maintain 12 plants, just barely enough for 10, and that's pushing it. Won't really be that bad though, just means i'll have two that go really slow and don't yield much, but it's more than it would be without them. Plus more are likely to die off, especially the 3 stragglers.

On the left is all of the plants, the right is the biggest one.

got 3 seeds to sprout, but i left one in the paper towel and the top plate got knocked off without me realizing it, so it dried out and died, but i have some more seeds germing and i planted the other two and one has popped out. I can't belive how fast they shot out tap roots though, it only took less than 24 hours for them to have a half inch long root, which probably means they will grow nice and fast if i don't kill them like that last batch.

what bugs me though, is that the soil in the two new ones is still soaked after 2 days since i watered them all, and the others needed watering today, except the big one, but it's in a much bigger pot.

I have a good feeling that is what almost killed all my plants, the soil being all wacky with the way it gets watered. really bugs the hell out of me, but i'll manage. just means i have to check on them everyday and make sure they get watered when they each need it.

Also, this big one is starting to smell... not sure what significance that has, but it smells good. Maybe it's going to autoflower or something, or it just wants to bud badly. not sure, but i would like to leave it in veg until the others are big enough to flower, then i'll flower them all at the same time.

Here's the first seedling of the new batch. I'm pretty sure it's White Rhino. and some seeds ready to be planted, theres some white rhino in there too i think.

I ended up with more seedlings then i expected, but it's not a big deal. I'll just put the two or 3 sickly ones off to the side and give the new ones all the light.

I now have 12 plants total, 6 of which are a month old but stunted to a weeks worth of growth.

thanks, i have high hopes for this batch. hopefully they don't get screwed up again. but i can safely say i'll get at least an ounce out of all this, considering how many plants i have, i definately want more though and i think it will be.

looking good ryan, just take your time with them when they are this size cos its their most vunerable time. do not use nutes till they are 3-4 weeks old and then in very small amounts gradually increasing over a few weeks. there will be enough nutrients in the soil to feed them until then. they are not much different in size to mine, it will be interesting to see what happens. good luck and i'll be watching.

Thanks for stopping by. here's some pics from today. the rhino and the big one are growing nicely, and all but one seedling has popped up. My White Rhino stretched like crazy though, but I think it was from when i was gone the first two days and it wasn't right under the lights.

The rhino is 5 days old today, and the other seedlings are 2-3 days old.

The really small ones in the first pic were the 3 day olds.

Here's pics from today, they have all perked up and grown nicely after a good few mistings. I tihnk i've figured out how much water they all need, so hopefully there will be no big problems with them. I'm using tap water now since this soil is supposed to self-acidify.

Most of the new ones are forming their second node, except one thats a bit of a straggler. The big ones on it's 7th node, and the other old ones are on their 5th and 6th nodes. I think the big one is likely female because of these little hairs i see right under the nodes, but that's not a definate sign, could just be shoots that didn't form right. it also smells a bit if you get close to it. smells really nice though, and it's familiar to some bud i've smoked many times and enjoyed much.

They really picked up and grew after the mistings, so i think i'll keep doing the same thing.

You can see how the big one perked up after being watered. but I only watered around the stem and misted the rest, and didn't water until it came out the bottom a lot, just a few drops. It seems to like that.
