Safe to order HPS lights online?

I'm planning on ordering a 600watt hps light online. I found a good deal and was about to make the purchase when I read somewhere that I shouldn't order online unless the packaging comes discreet and no evidence of where it came from.

I don't know I could just be paranoid about cops following my package and find me setting up a grow room. Where do most people get their hps lights? Thanks in advance.

lights are not illegal. go for it. majority of places have plain box shipping.

I haven't ordered a light online but I was going to. There's nothing wrong with buying a HPS it doesn't necessarrily mean your going to be breaking the law and it would be unlawful to get a warrant because someone were to purchase one. At the same time I wouldn't want to advertise that I am getting a HPS light either so I would like a plain box, read FAQs and small print it may say if it's shipped in discreet packaging.

Ha first question I always look for and ask is how are your items shipped? I have personally bought enough equipment off of the internet to set up 4 grows. normally I use the same stores but every once in awhile I get really creative

i bought a 600w light from htgsupply and it was shipped in a plain box. I dont think theres anyway the UPS guy or anyone for that matter without opening it up would know what it was

I felt safe ordering my light online for several reasons, one of them being that I ordered it from another state. If my state investigators were looking at mailing lists from hydro shops, they'd be looking at the ones in my state.

Federal cops don't have the resources to go after 600w closet grows, too many people do it. The DEA has already said they spend their resources on large scale ops, people who are growing it for sale.

Let's say you buy your light and put it away for 6 months while you build a closet or something (I did this, also took a small break from growing) How will the cops know whether or not you're growing pot? Informants. They can't bust your door in just for ordering a light. See, it goes like this.... informant provides police with testimony, audio, and possibly pics. Cops then collect corroborating, circumstantial evidence such as power bills, reciepts, etc.

Starting with mailing lists for legal items and people who use a lot of electric when looking for grow ops is extremely inefficient and contrary to how police investigations are conducted. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack and puts law-abiding citizens under police scrutiny, something for which they would get roasted in the court of public opinion. It's just not how it's done.

Does anybody have any experience on buying hps light system from a retail store. I was going to go to htgsupply retail school. Would it be unsual or suspicious if i go in there asking for all this stuff. I plan on paying with cash and making up some bullsh*t story about why i need all this stuff. Thanks in advance.

Lights are not illegal as other have stated, and it's just lights so "stealth" packaging isn't really important. Indoor gardening is not only big business, but a HUGE hobby. Totally okay to do, however if you have an local gardening/hydroponic shop that has reasonable pricing, I would suggest buying some supplies there. First, it's local and I'm big on supporting local businesses. But, foremost is establishing a relationship with the people that work there. They are usually "hobby" growers as well, and are a wealth of information.

Also, if you are really concerned about talking to the people at the gardening shop about your needs, just say you are growing organic tomatoes. Most of the supplies for toms is pretty much the same for our hobby.

Truthfully, yes you COULD end up on someones radar. In REALITY though, you absolutely will not. Nobody gives a shit about a 600 watt light. Can you imagine if they tracked this kind of thing? The entire country would be under surveilance!

I prefer NOT buying any grow materials at a retail store...it's much more annonymous online. Ya got to get past the idea that your grow is the center of the universe.....it really isn't an important thing in the great scheme of things...keeping your mouth shut to ALL firends and acquaintances is much more stealth....All grow equip I've ordered online has ALWAYS been shipped with stealth.....plus, their is NO ONE waiting in the weeds to catch you at something....

It's fine to be concerned.... the fear is what keeps it safe. But he's right, the biggest thing you really gotta worry about is just keeping it quiet. Even though it's soooo tempting to say "dude... comere. I have to show you this".... especially when they start getting all frosty and sticky and and....
