We are probably the best army, but not the largest. Not by far.
That goes to China.

some one always has to take the blame most of those countries sent forces into Iraq or Afganistan with the us . they blame bush not there own countries government. If by 'lifestyle' you mean our standard of living, then why is it that those with similar standards of living still hate us? And trust me, Bush, specifically is HATED abroad. At least in my experience (and I travel a LOT).
your right after 9/11 people thought the patriot act was the greatest think in the world. but all it does is strip freedom from the peopleinstill FEAR in people and they'll look toward their leaders for answers...if their leaders grant them safety, even at the cost of liberty, they will oblige if they're truely scared for their own safety/security.
get it through every last thick skull of people who can't seem to wrap their minds around this
This administration is using fear to push their agenda also. They use our economic problems as an excuse to push through bills that aren't even read over.instill FEAR in people and they'll look toward their leaders for answers...if their leaders grant them safety, even at the cost of liberty, they will oblige if they're truely scared for their own safety/security.

+1 ......This administration is using fear to push their agenda also. They use our economic problems as an excuse to push through bills that aren't even read over.
Not sure who said it, but there was a quote something to the effect of " We shouldn't waste an opportunity to take advantage of a catastrophe"
And that's exactly what they're doing. Taking advantage of the financial state this country is in to make the ultimate power grab.
That statement is incorrect. Michael Scheuer the former head of the Bin Laden unit at the CIA gave these reasons in the CIA report.to be honest I hate the government as much as the next dude. but were not hated because of our government were hated because of our life style.
Exactly! Remeber when bush said your either with "us" or against"us". He was speaking for america. I'm a canadian and this post just shows exactly what some of us are saying. Why do the"terrorists" hate america anyway? Hmmm. I didn't want to go to afganistan. I blame my own county for being there but also understand their hands are tied.some one always has to take the blame most of those countries sent forces into Iraq or Afganistan with the us . they blame bush not there own countries government.
Seems about right to me. You know I was looking at the F.B.I most wanted list the other day and bin-laden isn't even wanted for the 911 attacks!!! Seems they don't even have enough evidence to say for sure that he was behind it.That statement is incorrect. Michael Scheuer the former head of the Bin Laden unit at the CIA gave these reasons in the CIA report.
The ability to control the price of oil
Unqualified support for Israel
Presence on the Arabian Peninsula
Military presence in Muslim countries
Support for governments that are viewed across the world as oppressing Muslims - Russia in Chechnya, India in Kashmir
Fifty year plus support of Arab police states and Tyrannies
The Romans barely made it out of Europe...the U.S. has over 700 bases in 130 odd countries. Proportionately I'd agree the Romans fucked with alot of people in the known world though.Define "safe". The United States aggresses against more countries than any other country in the history of the world.

What about the Roman Empire?
One thing both empires share, bread and circuses, figureatively anyway.

False. The Romans made it well into Africa and Asia. Compared to the total land that was known to exist, the Romans conquered a great portion of it. I'd say we're proportionately similar to the Romans in our global reach, considering the times. I think the parallels between the two empires are uncanny. And consider how young we are as a country. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a Sulla and no Caesar.False. The Romans made it well into Africa and Asia. As long as we have no Nero.Maybe we'll get lucky and have a Sulla and no Caesar.
Wrong era, the United States is not in the empire phase, more in the late republic phase if you are going to draw parallels. As long as we have no Nero.
