Thats just dried storage fluid, they know it happens since they can't control inventory after it leaves.
People worry when they get them wet out of the box also, think its used.
If you store your pen/probe sitting in solution it can evaporate and leave salts, before they leave the factory they're given a few drops of storage solution that's what you're seeing it's not a problem.
I was worried because I live in a tropical climate and salt can ruin things. I was concerned about the electronics rusting out and such. Thanks for your input, though.
Buy KCL solution, and the cleaning /calibration kit (the bottles not the tiny packets)
Rinse it after each use, and store in kcl solution to preserve the longevity of the probe. Buy the cleaning kits and clean monthly. The meter will be a great tool , but if you don't calibrate everything you do will be off
