Samsung F Strip Build

Ugh, don't ask me I have no idea, that is why I asked. I have a hlg 240 on the way and I am trying to decide whether to drive 6 or 7 strips with it. Trying to keep the heat down as much as possible.

Those influx L09 are similar voltage as F series, but current rating is lower. It's easy to get mixed up without specifying. I run 6 of Samsung F series LT-F564B strips on Meanwell HLG-320 driver maxed out measuring 47.7V @ 1.3A to each strip, they are rated at 1.8A max.

The influx L09 are rated at maximum current of 1.38A. That being said, 6 of the L09 strips would be operating at max current on a HLG-320 driver.

The more power (watts) you provide to each strip, the hotter and less efficient they operate. That's why most people recommend running more strips at lower wattage per strip.

Most meanwell drivers provide slightly more power than are actually rated for, my 320 pulls 380 actual watts from the wall, with some efficiency losses at the driver in the form of heat.

On paper, HLG-320 provides 6.7A at 48V, HLG-240 provides 5A at 48V. The number of strips that you want to run is up to you, based on multiple factors.

Also as I mentioned before, a small fan blowing at the strips will help keep them cool if you are running near max.

Some serious knowledge in this thread ... props. Anyway hoping to build a light for a 800x800 tray , looking a these strips from arrow SL-B8V4N90LAWW. They are 560mm long so won’t cover the the tray completely. I run 16 plants per tray sog style clones straight to flower. Will the sides receive enough light or should I get different strips or configure them differently? Tia

Hi. would you use these strips to grow from seed to flower? How many strips you need for a 4x4? these strips don't have uv, far red and all the other cool stuff would u still be able to grow real quality weed like on a professional level? Thanks

What do you have the leds mounted too mate? You got heatsinks or aluminium L section?
They're just thin aluminum trays meant to convert florescent light trophers to led. They originally held 2 strips, but I drilled holes to mount an additional 2 strips to each, then I used heat transfer tape and mounted the additional strips. I also mounted them on the opposite side so I could hang them higher in my cabinet.20200405_175214.jpg20200330_144657.jpg

@Slobberhose Nice build, I am really curious how hard you can run those strips mounted to a plate like that. Do you have any data you could share yet?

Have been busy with life and realized I havent posted an update in awhile. Here's the same 5 plants I shared earlier in the thread grown under F strips, they are a few weeks into flower now running the light around 300 watts.

I always get random little plants growing in my pots, but this one is something special. It actually started to produce flowers as I changed the schedule to 12/12. I assume that some random seeds get mixed up in kelp meal or alfalfa that I use.

I could definitely run them at full power which would be like 800ma with this driver, but it's been too hot here for that. At 200 watts I'm only pushing like 550ish MA and the top of the fixture is just barely warm to the touch. Cab runs around 2 degrees over ambient this way, I'll push then more when I get AC in my garage.

Edit: Oh I guess I should mention that I'm runnin 2 of those 4 strip trophers off 1 HLG320 for a total of 8 strips, in case you missed my previous post.

Hi guys. Long time lurker. New to the hobby and have recently bought some cheap Samsung f-strips and influx L09 led boards. Could not resist the last price drop. Ridiculous price drop. Would craigmk be willing to share where the very smart looking heatsinks can be bought. Was it US&A or closer to Uk.

Apologies for asking but they do look really good and much better than u channel.

Dont dis the u-ey, they are generally really good. The latest strips on channel we built was 2mm 40x40mm u-channel, cuts of 1300mm. We had that running on 120w in our highest wattage test and it was definitely hot too touch, but that was sort of the point. Our space gets real cold in the winter and we want to conserve some heat from the sinks for heating. With a bit of air movement it would be in allright range. Current running about 25w each and obviously stone cold.
The benefit of channel is that you should be able to score it cheap (iirc it was maybe 3e a meter or so?) and local. No extra shipping cost for long parcels. But if your going to do 30w per foot on a regluar all year basis a good channel is better but youd want a fair bit of fins and and circumference. Channel we did is already 240mm of surface in the cross section, beats most strip hearsinks. Happy building, enjoy the first switch on, its special ;)

Sorry folks. I did not mean to insult the u channel at all :dunce:. Cheap, effective and available. Quite possibly the most sensible choice. I am another one that scooped up some strips in the latest deal offerings and got a load off Arrow  They really were just about giving them away. I couldn't resist and seem to going through a equipment hoarding phase at the moment.

Lots of strips driven gently is the plan if indeed there is a plan. Def winging it so far. Seen some pretty smart builds here in the last few weeks.

This probably wont be the last you hear from me. Still have to choose drivers :?

Keep her lit :bigjoint:
