yes that is san pedro. it did not have a label? I am not educated in plant science, so get a educated opinion first, I am just a cactus fan. That could be tricocerus pachanoi or peruvianus. much easier to tell by looking at the flowers or a label ...:)

I wonder if all the cactus in looney tunes was what made the coyote crazy and the road runner allways smile..seems there was a lot of sanpedro type cactus lurking in the background of that show...

I don't recall poking my fingers on long spines when handling a san pedro.
LOL what?!!? I just chopped up cactus yesterday and I pricked almost all my fingers and some toes! I have seen San Pedro spines 3 inches long. Spine length have nothing to do with iding the cactus.

I want to throw in my two-cents on Mescaline content and cactus. It is my theory that stressing the cactus produces more mescaline. Many will argue that Mescaline is a poor defense against predators so that theory is whack..... but chew on this fat----- Cactus are in the dessert and thrive where few other creatures/plants can, any animal or human that is in the dessert is probably very thirsty....very very thirsty....... if you are thirsty enough to chop open a cactus and drink/eat the contents then you are probably severely dehydrated or near that point. ........trust me on this bit of information: If you are dehydrated and you start munching on San Pedro flesh and sucking all the juice , the mescaline trip will begin within minutes and not hours.. and like Mr.EDuck said : Nature is a cold hearted bitch. If your sorry ass is in the dessert, dehydrated and now on a head full of mescaline.... i don't give you long to live...... hence Impman's theory that Mescaline is indeed a defense mechanism for the San Pedro..... just like the DMT frogs.... sure you might eat one frog, but then you will be in another universe and probably very vulnerable to predators.

I like rorys idea, just try it. make a tea and strap on some shoes and your mescaline hat. lol , ya duck I think thats what i meant too. I also have a theory that many plants have evolved along side their human companions for protection. i.e. marijuana. THC is no defense, and neither is a apple... right? Then again, when man started fucking around with agriculture plants have never been the same since...., The cactus is like, 'You can enjoy the mescaline as long as you understand what im all about, im a survivor bitch'... lol

anybody see dirty pictures...I love when Ann tells the story of the cops on there land and asking about psychoactive cacti and she tells them yes we have some and your standing right next to one and the cop jumped back SCARED of a lil cacti, found it quite funny.

That does not look like the standard san pedro I have had the spines look to long it could be a peruvian or some other species, I have only messed around with peyote and sand pedro non of the other species, here is a pic of what I have seen out of all my san pedro...they have always looked like this when I have purchased them, either online, from some of my AZ friends or at home depot/lowes san_pedro_cactus_specimen.jpg

Like I said, Im not plant scientist but Peruvian Torch and even San Pedro can have wicked looking spines!!! I read that spine growth has to do with other factors. There are a lot of San Pedro look alikes too with all the hybrid they do... the best way to tell is with the flowers. I have some at the nursery where I get my cactus that are 3 inches long... The cactus are labeled too... I will just have to take a picture at the nursery
