Sandmonkey's 2nd grow: Dutch Passion Flo, Magus Warlock, and ???

It's been a while since my 1st grow. Naturally, i've been enjoying the fruits of my labor :bigjoint:

I honestly didn't plan on starting my next grow until September, but i couldn't wait any longer.

This time I'm growing from both seeds and clones. As far as the seeds are concerned, I went with feminized Flo from Dutch Passion (DJ Short strain) and Magus Genetics' Warlock.

Why? well i've always been a Jason King fan, and this is what he had to say about these strains:

I've never tried either, so this should be exciting.

I tried to germinate 5 seeds of each strain with the wet paper towel method.

The results were:

5/5 Flo.
4/5 Warlock.

After I plated the seeds, the sprouting results were as follows:

3/5 Flo
3/4 Warlock.

So now i have 6 babies (3 of each), and once they grow a lil' I'll be adding 3 clones of an as of yet undecided strain; depending what's available. It will probably be Bubblegum or AK-47. I over-nuted the Bubblegum in my last grow so i'm willing to give it a 2nd chance with organic nutes.

My setup is as follows (check my previous grow for pics):
-Homebox L
-400w HPS
-6" inline fan w/carbon filter
-small clip fan for toughening those stems.

For nutes, I've decided to switch from Canna to organic BioBizz, and Phiranna from AN:

They sprouted about 3 days ago, and are looking good so far. The Warlocks (cups with brown tape) seem to be growing more vigorously so far. Of course at this stage, nothing is certain:

My only problem so far is a bit of heat stress. It's around 88 degrees in my grow room; so a few degrees more than i'd like. I'm not too worried, as I'll be adding an AC to my room in a few days.

Stay tuned for regular updates

I've read through your first grow. Great results for a first time grow!

I just got my homebox today, can't wait to get started.

My question was about your venting. I remember you said you had a 6" inline in there with a 260 CFM. Is it not enough to keep your temp below 88? I haven't purchased a fan yet, so I am curious about temp. control.

under normal circumstances it is, but if the air outside the grow room is already over 80 degrees, then the intake air will be pretty warm and so the fan will just be circulating warm air.

I've now got an AC outside the grow room so the temperature problem is solved.

Haven't updated in a while.

So far things are going OK, though they could be better. :?

I started giving them the Alg-a-Mic, BioHeaven and AN Phiranna. All of these have very low NPK values (0.1 0.1 0.1). So I don't think I'm burning them!

The Warlock are growing more rapidly than the Flo. They all look OK, except for one of each type; especially the Flo.

Here are all six; Warlock on the left and Flo on the right:

and the Flo with a really bad case of I-don't-know-what:

They started out as little rusty spots. I thought it could be from water droplets burning the leaves from misting. But I doubt it, since this is the only plant with such symptoms. The undersid eof the leaves are purple-ish, as is the stem. Like Towelieee, I have no idea what's going on :?

Problem is, some of the newer growth are also exhibiting purple/blue patches on top...

yea i agree on just letting her grow, and dont over do it with the nutes remember its a very delicate stage maybe a little flush will clean her up a bit, just a suggestion, overall looking good

like I said i haven't been using actual grow nutes, just additives with extremely low NPK values. Puzzling eh? :-?

I would cut the leaf tips, but the entire leaf feels crispy to the touch. In fact in the pic above you'll see that the leaf on the right actually snapped off!

today the same is happening to the upper leaves

I'll give her a few more days and if this abnormality still continues I'm just going to put her out of her misery

Well I went to my local grow shop today and got myself some new babies: 8 White Widow and 7 AK-47 clones.
Planted them immediately and gave them over 6 hours of darkness to rest after the transplant shock. Lights just came on:

I've decided to try my luck at perpetual growing, so tomorrow or Monday I should be receiving a Homebox XS with 150w CFL for vegging/cloning.
Once it's here I'll transfer the seedlings to that room and flower the clones immediately. They're under 24 hours of lighting right now.

The sickly Flo has grown a bit, and so far the newest growth appear to be OK. She might be spared! here are the seedlings all huddled in one corner:

More to come soon ;)

looks good it seems like we have the same set up so is it a 400 watt cool tube.

ah the prepetual grow that what mines started outas, i got the clones in the closet waiting to root but my place gets serviced every four months, and its hard to hide the home box,I've subscribed i'm curious to watch your grow, hope ya post allot of pics,

Today I finally assembled my newly arrived Homebox XS

It's exactly 60% the size of my Homebox L:

I've got a 150w blue spectrum CFL w/aluminum reflector on yoyos.. Should be perfect for vegging:

Already moved the seedlings in, and I'll be transplanting them into 2 gallon pots tomorrow. I must say they look pretty happy! Still haven't chopped the weird, stretchy Flo as the new growth appears to be normal. I'll give her a chance...

I've also put an extractor at the top opening of the Homebox. No need for a carbon filter and duct tubing for this room.

In the flowering room I've moved the small clip-on fan to the XS and bought a larger Honeywell fan. This should toughen up those stems!

The clones are looking good; albeit for some deformed/mutated growth which I also experienced during my 1st grow. I've learnt not to worry about it:

I think I'll switch to 12/12 tomorrow. The plants are definitely well-rooted and I don't want them to get too big. it's crowded in there!

Sorry for the crappy pics. Once budding starts I'll use my DSLR and we should have more pics (and hopefully buds!) like this ;) (NLX from my previous grow)

Stay tuned ;)

:peace:

Thanks man!

Unfortunately no cool tube, just the HPS and an aluminum reflector. The intake air is pretty cool, so I can lower the light a fair bit.

Sucks about your situation. Similar circumstances delayed this grow a good 3 months, but thankfully it's all worked out now...

And don't worry, it'll be pics galore here :D

I harvested about 11oz of trimmed, dried bud from 10 plants, and a couple of grams of isolator hash from all the trim. Not bad for a first grow.
