saving male pollen

how can i save pollen from my male plants and when i save the pollen can i brush it on one of my female plants and keep that plant in my grow room without pollinating my other plants?

i think you can keep pollen for about a month...if you store in the fridge in a ziplock bag..just pluck some sacs that look like they are about to pop and have darker yellow lines on them where the sac parts come together...as far as putting it on one female its possible to not critically pollinate the rest of your females..but don't be surprised to find a few seeds here and there on the others..especially if you have a fan oscillating..I would just pollinate her away from the others then carefully put her back in the box...what strains do you have and what are you trying to cross?

there are a few ways to go about polinating females without the polen spreading, one is to simply take a container of pollen, and a paintbrush and lightly aply the polen to the pistols. You can also take a bag with some pollen in it and tie it over a branch and lightly spread the pollen around, you can leave the bag on for a day or so. I've tried the paintbrush method with pretty good results, lots of seeds where I wanted them and not many elsewear. I would recomend doing either method outside of your flowering room.
and rememeber polen is renders usless by water!
and yea like superman said, the average life of polen in a refrigerator is about a month, though I've heard of pollen being stored for up to or over 3 months. but a month is safest

Thats the spirit!!! just got to make sure you know what plants, or branches are polinated by what!

I remove mine from the grow area and use a small hobby paint brush to apply the pollen. I let them sit for around 4 days, then do a good foliar spray before sticking back in the grow room. Here's 2 pics - the first is a seeded bud and the second is a bud next to it.

sounds like a good way to do it to me!!! thats a really food idea, foliar feeding before putting it back. but is the 4 days necessary? pollen usually does its thing in as little as 30 minutes after comming in contact with a pistol. are there some that are that slow to sprout their weird little root?

male 1 = sour/ogkush x chemdawg
male 2= sour/og x bubba kush

man it depends on the size of the plant and what time it was pollinated during the flowering stage..for instance if it was pollinated at the beginning of the flowering stage you could end up with 100's of seeds...which isnt a bad thing if you want to keep growing that strain..

I checked around and 4 or 5 days was what was recommended. I think it was day 3 when I started seeing the pistils drying up.

gotta try it out, do you put them under a light during those four days?

Yeah, I try to keep them on the same schedule and put them back in the flower room close to lights out because of the water on the leaves.
