Early English settlers in America viewed the right to arms and/or the right to bear arms and/or state militias as important for one or more of these purposes.

you know they were talking about king george, who they fought off with an army, right?
now we have standing armies to deter tyrannical governments and prevent invasion.
that's at least one interpretation. don't get too excited about your line of argument, it is far from a slam dunk. stick with personal defense to justify personal ownership of arms.
