The height and width of the SCROG is totally dependent on the size of space you have. You want to start training your girls as soon as you can and keep tucking them under the screen until they are done wit their 12/12 stretch. I have found that if you bulid your screen to sit about a 18''-24'' higher then your container and start training them early is the best, and you can always add blocks to adjust as the plant gets bigger if needed<<<I've always been able to keep them under the screen without raising it. Once they are done stretching you should be left with a nice full even canopy of colas.

Ok so the earlier you start training them the smaller they will be ? Cause I want 3-4 foot plants when should I start training them ?

What I did was attach bamboo to the pot then a screen onto the bamboo. That way individual plants have their own screen more or less and pots can be moved lifted on their own

One of the biggest points I try to make is the size of the holes in your screen, I personally think the smaller the better because you get more tops. As for your light question what does the manufacturer recommend? if it's 24" then I'd set it at about 18". I veg with a 300w LED 7 band in a 4'x6' area with it hanging about 24" above my canopy, I don't have a mother plant so I can get a nice even coverage above my clones. I cut a clone off of my 2 week vegged clone about a week after I transfer them to my Flower/Scrog room. Running a perpetual SCROG. Anything else that would help just hit me up.

thanks man and one more question when should I start tying the plant down I still have space for it to get big I just want multiple tops and want to try something besides topping you know ?

I usually start training when I have about 4-5 nodes but I always top mine as described in UB's thread on topping to get four main colas. Reason being is it's a lot easier keeping a plant uniform in structure by topping it this way then it is trying to LST only.

And when should I start removing the small buds/ undergrowth for bigger buds in veg or flower ?
Just wondering why you would remove undergrowth and small buds? Don't know shit about 'scrogging' so it's not a slam just wondering why it's thought this would increase the size of the buds? I've grown plants indoors in small spaces before without ever removing anything and frankly, I couldn't have asked for bigger yields. Does anybody have any examples of a side-by-side comparison that shows bigger buds on plants with their small buds/undergrowth removed? I'm very curious. How about use the scrog method and don't remove anything? I can't believe it would cause the plant to NOT produce nice buds. Looking for some experts to chime in on this. What's the thought process for removing the smaller stuff and undergrowth?

When you remove smaller buds that aren't getting light penetration it will create bigger top colas its called pruning ! Anything that doesn't get light will be undeveloped buds anyway and a hassle to trim smaller nugs than bigger top colas . Have u never heard of this before or what ?

depending on how fast they pop you can continue to train them under the screen until around the second week of flower, try to predict how it's going to spread across the screen, you asked earlier about light height, 400 watt if you've got a decent extraction/cooling system you should be able to keep the lights slammed pretty low maybe 4 - 6 inches from the actual buds...whatever feels good to your hand.. also depending on what they are accustomed to from a young age

Ok cool thanks for answering my questions and straight to the point lol and how close can I keep the light during veg ? I have an ac can get the room to 60 if I wanted to .

Oh I've heard of pruning before. I've never grown nor seen a plant with bigger top colas just because the plant was pruned underneath. I have seen plants that have NOT been pruned producing extremely large colas. My only point to the question was to see if anybody has ever proved that pruning undergrowth actually increases the size of the colas. Outside of being a pain in the ass to trim after harvest, I'm not sure there are any real benefits to top colas by taking off healthy growth. If the plant's undergrowth isn't receiving enough light causing them to die, wouldn't it make more sense to give it more light rather than remove the healthy stuff? I currently have a plant that was tied down for the entire veg stage then allowed to sprawl while moving into flower. Once the plant stretched out, the lower stuff was receiving all the light it needs. I haven't taken off a single leaf on this plant and with the proper soil balance, the plant hasn't lost any on it's own either. I'm not trying to be argumentative, just sharing what I know. To me, the more healthy vegetation you keep on the plant, the stronger the plant becomes. The stronger and healthier the plant is, the bigger the buds. Just my experience.

Removal of lower growth: more to it than meets the eye. Altering the structure works against the plants evelutionarily developed traits that help it resist various threats such as molds/mildews. A dense cannopy over a "bush" in an artificial invironment can especially spell disaster. Removing lower growth assists the plant in helping with air movement below. It also creates more ideal working space for hands, tools, and watering containers/wands etc. Removal however, is a bit less productive with greater loss and time consumption than prohibiting growth from developing. Fyi

Awesome informative response. I always knew it was a common practice but never understood what one could gain from loosing healthy growth. Your explanation makes sense. I don' think I would do this to my outdoor grows but I can see where it could be beneficial in some respects to a tight indoor grow. Also, if it's not actually harming the plant or stunting it in anyway, I could see it making it easier to maintain the plant, as you pointed out. Thanks, I love it when somebody actually provides information instead of flaming the hell out of a new forum member for simply questioning opinions.
