alrite so my plants are just starting to bud now , my question is, IS the whole point of a scrog to get space between to canopy "light to lower branches"?. wouldnt tieing the branches apart be just as effective?also are u ment to weave the plant up and down thru the wire ?

also is it to late to put some wire down now ? would be easy to just put the top branches thru the squares , but not to weave them up and down

you dont want to just put the top branches through or else you defeat the purpose of a scrog. i would start the screen four inches below the top of the plant and start the weave pattern with the top 4" the rest of the plant will catch up in the stretch. good luck

alrite so your ment to weave it up and down thru the holes, i wasnt sure cos i saw on another small scrog just the wire with the branches in them spaced out , no weaving

the idea of SCROG is that the lower growth get NO LIGHT and all the screen is filled with dense canopy. that way all the parts of the plant that needs light get it and the lower growth is removed so that the plant focus the energy where you want it to - the top.
you even out the distance from the light and that lets you get the light lower without burning tops that pop up higher.

good luck.

yup, you pretty much missed the whole idea... your plants should have grown INTO the screen really, and u just tuck it back under until this screen is about.. (well, thats where the difference is really..) 75% lets say.. for an indica, cause it wont stretch as much after u switch to 12\12.. the main idea is ... so you dont have a few buds gettin most of the light... if your tallest plant is 2ft, and the the rest are all 1.5 feet... if they're just allowed to grow no training, u will have to make the light adhere to the taller plant.... the scrog just makes em all the same height, so that the light hits all plants \ foliage evenly..

this is probably the simples and best scrog thread you will find.. here ya go

Boy Oh Boy!

Hello Folks, Im Woodsman.

My Method is one where SCORG is used. Notice, I didnt say my method is scrog. See this is the concept of SCROG that I see so many people miss: SCROG: is a method that imporvises the use of a tool ie. screen, in order to accoplish a goal. The goal however is yours. You own it. It can be what ever you strive for.

Lets take for instance I have a tent. It is 4 feet by 4 feet and 6 feet tall. Now I know that this area within the box is the only area I can grow in. My light, which is placd above my plants at measurable distance, cast a certain amount of light that we measure in Lumens. That amount of lumens can be measured at distances from the bulb and we can see that light is lost over a certian distance from the bulb. This can also be seen in plants that do have a "top" cola. The top of the plant recieves the most light thus the smaller flowers below where light is lost.
So given that my height is pre destin 6 feet, and the rest of my area is within a 4 foot square, it can be measured that my floor space of that 4 X 4 is the same surface area that I could have filled with plant right? I could fill it with numbers of pots that are plants which will fill that space; I could bend plants down untill they become a bush and fill that area however I will loose the control over height at some point once flowering, or I could SCROG. Scrog allows me to use as little as one plant to fill as much surface area as I place screen for.

Thats the goal of SCROG however, as I said to start with you only own what you do with it to reach your own goal. The rest is already the idea.

I know that I have a block of area within my tent that I want filled with BUD. How I do this, is set my scrog at 24" (many reasons) and allow my plants (Two) to vegg untill they are large enough that once placed under the screen, they fill the majority of the space with individual branches (aka tops). These small shoots or branches are allowed to grow up through the screen ( NOT WEAVED) and as they do, the tallest ones are carefully pulled back through the screen and moved outward to the furthest place it can reach from center or where ever your plant sits. Once full (or close to, as explained previously by another) budding begins, and you have a full area of mature ready tops waiting to turn into your dreams!

Enjoy!

I invite you all to join us at the Scroggers page. SEARCH FORUMS: Enter The Scrog/ United Scroggers Post Page. I wont give you a link, becuase that would be skipping a step in your quest to become educated. Education requires your ability to find what your looking for. Good luck! Happy Scrogging!

another q .. the screen should be close to the lights at a resonable distance yeah ?not close to close to the pots aye, cos u said u want them to grow to the desired height"which is where the screen sits"?

Do as much reading as you can buddy!

Your plants need to be far enough away from your light that they are not being burned by the heat. This is typically 12 to 24 inches away from the bulb (depending on the lamp, hood, etc.)

Note: Raising and lowering the light is easier than garden.

My screen stays at 24inches from the floor, the light moves up as the plants grow vertically.

Ill post another pic of the screen that I shared previously. Same plants as before, now budding. :leaf:
