Scrog

Hey folks,
A while back when i first began to play with growing, a man got me real excited about a process of gardening called scrog, or screen of green. He told stories of normal yields being doubled or tripled, and best off all he said, it was easy.
Long story short, now that im 26, a garden is actually feasible and i want to try this scrog technique. I have looked into it, i understand the challenge. What I want to know is;
(and let just assume im a average-good gardener, I know that things vary greatly depending on the gardeners skill)
Does it really increase yield?
If it's so easy why doesn't everyone do it? What are the down sides?
How many plants would it take roughly, to fill a 3ft X 3ft screen?
What are some good strains to use in a scrog system?

Any help would be great

its never a bad time to decide to grow:weed: HAHA, anyway the basic idea behind the scrog is to let the screen help support the stem of the plant which allows more energy to be put into the buds. its used mainly in mediums like hydroton, where staking is difficult to impossible. unless you plan on doing your grow in a soilless mix similar to that. Staking does just as good a job and doest require you to take it apart to move a plant more than a few inches. it also depends on what you use as your scrog some people use fencing, others use string in a grid pattern, heads up though if you choose to use fencing keep in mind that once it grows though you cant take it apart if you need to remove/move a plant more than a few inches,very easliy.hope that helps a little.

Its probably not quite as easy(I'm trying it for the first time since I ended up with 5 foot monsters I wasn't ready for first grow)as lst which is basically tieing the top of the plant below the side growth(keeping the main stalk horizontal) , its all new to me and I dunno how its gonna go but we'll see, heres some pictures so far. 20 days in veg or so......
Then again after the hardware install maybe its actually easier. Hard to say but I'm gonna tie this shit down as long as possible to keep an even canopy. With scrog everything seems hard to access although I'm using individual aero totes and bubble buckets, with scrog it doesn't seem possible to move anything if needed, I can move the totes because the plant is actually tied to it.or yeah, what bong said

@bong
thats a common misconception. People who purposely grow weed through the screen without bending or training are using the screen as support for top heavy plants. Scrog is different, you actually train your plants to grow sideways (horizontal) so that lower branches poke through the screen and develop colas like the tops of normally grown plants.
@db
your grow room is beautiful. I hope to get something like that going someday.

thanks for the link dark
thanks for the info
