i haven't done a scrog grow, but i have built a scrog setup
idea is the buds grow up through the mesh, the leaves stay underneath
supposed to be very efficient, which got me going on scrog
after i built my 2 plant setup, realized that a male would be a problem
best used with feminized seeds or clones

The idea is that by holding the main cola down (horizantal) that the hormones are redistributed down the stalk and the other buds on that branch, and all other branches, think they need to compensate for the loss of the cola. All buds grow bigger than they would otherwise and increase yeilds. It works best with Indicas.

Well you have gotten some interesting answers but the correct one is this. SCROG was a style of growing that was originated to help get decent yields when using fluorescent lights that dont have very good canopy penetration. By placing a screen over the plants you can keep your canopy nice and even and flat to be able to have the light hitting all of the bud sites without having to pentrate deep in the plant.

Nice setup and a nice canopy. Please pardon the link and ignore those pesky V-ScrOG, Stadium ScrOG, Flat ScrOG and Cylinder ScrOG variations. +rep

I certainly love scrog in all its configurations. I believe it is the most productive method and it gives me an excuse to play with my girls. Ty for the compliment and rep back at ya.

heres the thing you can get a good amount of bud off scrog. and if its convenient then do it. (whatever is best for you) but.. if you want big time amounts you need to do normal size plants.

That little 2x3 screen gave me 318 grams. I would say that is a pretty big amount for 6 square feet.

From a heat perspective sure and the method minimizes intensity issues to a degree though coverage is somewhat of an issue considering how close the lights should be to achieve an optimal intensity. I wouldn't be adverse to trying the T5s, I just happened to already have the HPS. Looking at the spectrum provided by the T5s they certainly have a wider useful range.

the terminology does get confusing, but LST is normally different from SCROG
SCROG uses a screen, LST is typically a plant tied down in a spiral around the pot
i have LST'd, results were good, very nice for growing in a small space
