I'm thinking of doing my first SOG using some Purple Bubba.
I also have some Master Kush i'll be using but wondered about the Bubba. Any advise? )~

While not particularly familiar with either strain, I know they are both primarily indica. While I'm sure both are adaptable to the SOG method. SOG tends to do better with taller growing, less branching type strain. A sativa based strain would probably be more favorable, and would consider leaning more toward a SCROG method with the Kush for optimal growth. In any case both are Kush strains and would probably be at least similar in the way they grow and like I said adaptable to a SOG type grow if you desired.

Sorry, that is exactly wrong.

SoG grows are usually done with clones under 1' tall and tightly packed. Indicas are perfect for this.

Sativas are more in line with a SCRoG type set up.

@OP Got your host (mother) plants set up for clones? SoG grows don't do all that well from seed, the growth isn't uniform enough.

Interesting take, I always have grown from clones, and only indicas in a Scrog if trained at all. Uniformity of growth would be based on the training I think, unless you mean uniformity of height in which case I would tend to agree with you if it is hard to do?. Why wouldn't you be able to make your seedlings stay basically similar heights if grown together? Just don't top them and cause them to branch. For my grows I always go with low and wide, rather than push for any kind of height, and branchy to maximize growth with limited plant counts. Like I said it probably doesn't matter what strain you do, I don't think overall height factors in as much as width, and uniformity of height. Obviously some strains are better suited than others.

HI all GOt a question about sog method. I was thinking on trying to get 9 plants per square foot using 16oz plastic cups for containers lol (im kinda cheap) doing an ebb and flow with a 1000 watt hps and a 4ft by 4ft tray. I'm wondering if anyone has ever grown GHS bubba kush. I'm looking for any info on how much they stretch in the first 2 week of flower and what size they should be before switched to flower so they dont choke out the light from each other and if i should top or lolly pop them any to increase yield

Yes, uniformity of height. In both actually, SoG and the SCRoG.

In the SoG, you use like size clones for the uniformity and in the SCRoG, the screen does the trick.

The overall height depends on light penetration, which is what, ~3' for HID's? A lanky 5' tall sativa would be problematic if you aren't doing vertical lighting.

Seedlings should work well with a SCRoG, but after growing to sexual maturity (say, 5+weeks), you are going to have fast growers, slow growers and the majority. Probably need to up can also.

I would take clones, 8" tall or so and when rooted, into 1 gal pots, veg for a week or 2 and then flip. Even with the stretch, they ended up less than 2' tall. Would do ~25 in a 4x4 area.

Now, I'm doing much lower plant counts and more LST and such. Same Indica strain for 2 1/2 years.

9 plants per square ft is well achievable but I prob wouldn't do that many if it's ur 1st attempt, why not even try 4? If your using 1000w why not go for a 5x5 table instead of 4x4? Im not 100%, but I don't think it would be advisable to vedge at all with 9 plants per sq ft?! I think it would be best to grow clones to a decent size, well rooted and straight into flower. I'd imagine even with 2 weeks vedgin it would become EXTREMELY overcrowded and a nightmare to work on.
