Sup y'all, I'm Urban Poison.

Used to be in the military for a long time, now I'm a college student. I'd wanted to grow weed since I was a teenager, but couldn't do much of that while under the employ of the man. As soon as I got the chance upon getting out, I pounced on this. Just finished my first grow: two Northern Lights Auto (Nirvana) and one Hawaii Maui Wowie (same). Grew them all in soil, started under a 8x2' T5 for the first three weeks, then two weeks 12/12 with staggered bulbs, then switched to 600W HPS for the other seven weeks. Final yield (dry): 4oz NL, 1.2oz HMW. I freaked out toward the end, mistaking new buds on NL plants for male flowers, so I harvested about 7-10 days sooner than planned, I blame the relatively low yield on this, plus two large branches I accidentally broke off one of the NL plants during bloom. I know 5.2oz/3 plants is not impressive at all, but I'm still proud since that was my first time.

Here were all three of them, just three weeks into flowering:

There's a wild beast stalking this forest.

My favorite girl, the HMW plant:

Seriously, the way this grew was simply gorgeous. It stayed right at 18-20", absolutely no training was done. Pretty strange for a mostly-Sativa strain, but I'm not complaining.

Now I'm growing three Hawaii Maui Wowie and three Urban Poisons (also Nirvana), but this time I'm using both the T5 and the HPS. I've got a Vortex S Series 6" stealth fan cooling the HPS, and I would not recommend anything else. Coupled with my awesome reflector, it's super effective at cooling the bulb, and it's so quiet that I have no issue sleeping four feet away or watching TV with the fan between me and the TV. Due to the heat from the T5, however, and also to ensure good air flow, I have three oscillating fans as well. Two 8" units at the back corners (one is there to provide circulation for the left side, the other is there to vent the T5 canopy) and a large one up front to vent the HPS canopy.

Far right corner, you can see the cable for the second fan:

Far left corner:

They broke "soil" around January 5th, and I switched them to 12/12 just over three weeks in.
They are growing in 2-gallon smart pots of pure coco, and I've recently automated the watering process. I used to spend one hour per day on average watering them, since they develop so fast and drink so much in the coco. Now I have a 5ga bucket with two large airstones and a pump at the bottom. The pump is timed to run for one minute every 2-2.5 hours during the 12 hour "day" cycle plus once at night, 7 times total.

The cost: About $60-70 at the local hydro place, plus two rather messy floods suffered while I was learning how to dial the system in.
The benefit: it has worked really well for a couple of days now, and in the long term will save me about a day per month (!) of what has become mundane busy work. If I notice the plants drying up, I'll just dial the watering frequency up in 30min increments, although I don't expect this to happen more than once.

For nutes, right now I'm using FloraTrio (with hard water Micro formula) at half strength, 1tsp/ga each of Roots Organics Trinity and Rock Resinator, and 0.5tsp/ga of CaliMagic.
At the end of the month, I'll cut FloraTrio by 33% and increase Trinity and Resinator by 50% and 100%, respectively.
After two weeks of that, they will get five days of just CaliMagic, Trinity, and Resinator, then a six day flush.

I think this crop's gonna be huge and delicious, and I can't wait!
Doing random unfeminized bonus seeds from Nirvana next round, prob gonna commission the T5 at the beginning of April to start on that.
