Seed germination problems! PLEASE HELP!!

Before my last two tries at germination, I had an almost perfect germination rate. I germinate in a regular paper towel, moistened in distilled water, folded a few times. Then I place it in an open bag or between two plates, and set it on my heating mat. The last two times, the radical will poke out, but then it stalls and grows no more. Some will turn a light brown color and some will stay white, but they have a poor growing rate once in soil. Maybe 50%... PLEASE HELP!! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?:wall:

I have 99-100% success in germination.
Your doing it right with the towel and plates with heat mat. What the temps inside the plates? Its on a controller yes!!?

The towel doesn't ever dry out does it? If so, there's your answer dude. Are they getting light at all during the germ process?

Sounds like you may have poor soil. Mabey you should start from the very beginning and tell me whats your set up, what you do and how, when?

My heating pad is not on any kind of controller. It's just a regular heating pad. It's dark. I know it's not the soil. It doesn't dry out. Maybe it's getting too moist. I'm not sure what the problem is. I have been using the same set up for about a year and just now starting getting problems. Thansk

maybe there isn't enough air, creating an anaerobic (no oxygen) environment and the ceeds don't thrive, and bacteria takes over.
the last couple times you may have gotten it light tight, but not air tight (which is good b/c it gets oxygen, which promotes aerobic bacteria)

it wouldn't hurt (i don't think) to rinse the seeds a little bit, to rinse any crap that may be contaminating the paper towel water, this could also be the issue, but wouldn't be if it was allowed enough fresh air

I like to plant straight into moistened starter soil, sow the ceed 1/4" below the surface, and every few days give it a little mist (depending on how quick the medium drains)
earth worm castings will innoculate the seedling and protect it while it does root work. You might notice it will pop up and not do anything, don't panic~ don't over/under water, make sure it gets nutes if in starter mix on the 4th or so day (light dosage) and work your way up until it gets potted into some real soil

more air in the germinator (paper towel) don't have it soaking wet, but rather damp. This will increase the oxygen surrounding the seed and aid in faster germination rates with more vigor in rooting and pre-emergence.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I threw two in today that had roots about the size of the seed. Hopefully they'll root and sprout

I use humates and fulvates for soak water and soak the towel with. under 24 hrs I germ, EVERY time. No more than 200ppm

why not sow directly into the soil? that's what i've always done. i've planted thousands of various seeds and the germ rate is at least 99 per cent. GL

i'm with po boy, not just ganja ceeds either, the natural way seems best. since i stopped fooling with paper towels and nonsense like that i go straight into moist well aerated soil, i've got 99.9% germ rate. I've soaked for 24 hrs, and not soaked at all. slight speed advantage with soaking but if you get a girl whose ready to pop, you might get her showing a tap root in the cup:shock:
