Seed Germination & Seedling Questions

Howdy folks! After much research here, I'll be soaking my beans in distilled water and starting them in moist paper towels inside tupperware.

Now here is my question...

I'll be growing inside with 3 gallon pots using Fox Farm soil. Once the seeds germinate, how should I 'start' them for their first two weeks before transplant? I was thinking that 16oz platic cups with soil and a hole or two in the bottom would work well...then transplant into the same soil in the larger containers. Any other better solutions?

Keeping the (3-6) seedlings moist during the day will be tougher than normal...our relative humidity never reaches more than 15%. I think I'll have to put them on the grow tent floor (Home Box L) with the humidifier and the large CFLs...not the 400MH/HPS unit.

If you can't tell...this is my first 'grow.' I'm a huge veggie and flower greenthumb, but the 'inside thing' is new to me.

Also, I know nutrients can be a dangerous thing for seedlings...but how about a very light foliar spray? Any recommendations? I am staying organic across the board...

Any help, sage wisdom, and tips will be greatly appreciated! kiss-ass

if you aleady have the big pots just put straight in there itll save work and no possibility of shocking the plants

Thanks! Should I direct sow the seeds or still germinate them using paper towers?

Then I should just water for the first two weeks with pure, aerated H20? Would some light foliar spray and root booters be ok?

I really didn't want to mess around with transplanting!!

I really appreciate the feedback!

its up to you. if you germinate though you'll know which seeds will grow and which ones wont and you'll get a better idea of which one might grow faster.

I would germ them with the damp paper towl tech. Then start them in some dixie cups or something. I wouldn't give them nuts until their well established. And transplanting isn't hard, just moisten the dirt and squeeze the cups slightly and out comes the root mass.

Thanks everyone!

How do you guys feel about light fertilization and foliar sprays in the first two weeks?

Like everything on RIU and in the books...some people say no way and other sing their praises.

Keep the info and advice coming!

That is the danger with fertilizing young plants. Either you add to much and it burns the plant, or to little and it does nothing for the plant. I would wait...Here is an idea, take one plant and add the nuts how you see fit and leave the others alone. If you see a difference then theres your answer.
