Seed Germination strategy 2024

There's plenty of people germinating in paper towels without issue. It's probably the most popular method.

If you're germinating a bunch of seeds at once, the paper towel is nice because you can catch any duds before bothering to plant. Not that that is some huge advantage, but it's part of the reason I do it. That and it's always worker very well for me, so why fix something that aint broke?

Don't use humidity domes on seeds though. I've seen lots of people get wilt-offs or attacked by fungus under domes. Domes are for clones, not seeds.
I think the biggest "catch 22" for the paper towel method is some people have to learn where that happy medium is. Too wet or too dry = failure. On the flip side of that, failure = change, and for me at least, I would be where I am today without failures.

Domes are the worst thing you can do with seed germination. 100%

I remember the days growing up, me and the boys would break up brick, roll it up, and toss the seeds out in the yard. Never thought anything of it, but sure as shit, before long.... seedlings were popping up everwhere. Not a single propagation dome in sight.

The further away from nature's way, the more likely you are to not succeed. So for the last 22 years, everything I do is purely copying Mother Nature. Sure some beans don't pop, sure some plants take a shit, but what doesn't is the better specimen and those are the genetics I want.
