in my opinion the simplest way is just place a seed between a moist paper towel, place in a zip lock and leave unzipped and place in a dark place with temps around 80.
check in 20 to 48 hours and you should have a sprout.

to speed it up a tad you can sand paper the pointy end of the seed but dont get carried away lol ;-)

Dropping in shot glass was how I did it up until recently. I recently found this "seed germination humidor" from home depot for like 2 USD. I decided to give it a shot, not expecting much. It calls for just soaking the pods and putting the seeds in straight...i used some old bag seed to test it and am surprised with the results...

Unopened...

And a couple shots after 96 hours (4 days)..

Instead of pre-germinating, this thing called for a lot of water (you get the peat moss pods compressed into small discs...then put water in the tray for the pods to soak up) so I put the seeds directly into the soaked pods. I dropped seeds at night so they would be able to soak for 8 hours before lights came on next morning.

To be honest I didnt expect much of anything...maybe 1 or 2, but i have 6 outta 12 popped so far (on bag seed no less) so im def gonna continue to use it. You can just keep the tray and buy more pods. Also they make various size trays, mine happend to be 2x6. but ive seen 2x12, 6x4, 6x12 and others.

If you want to resemble something close to nature then put your seeds in the fridge for 24 hours first(seeds think its winter and get ready for spring), then immediently place them between 2 moist paper towels in a dark warm place(seeds now think it's spring and will germinate quickly).
