Seed Making

So want to make seeds for a NL. So if I take pollen from a boy Different strain than the Northern Light, and pollenate one part of the NL fem will that be a different strain, Hybrid?, or what? When you grow for your own use and you have to much you have to stop for a time and making seeds is the only way to start up again when it is time. Or you make way to much and have to get rid of it. So how does that work anyway? Don't you get busted when you let people know you are selling it by them or someone else?? I mean remember the rule #1 don't tell anyone!!!! So bet no one wants to talk about that......

it will be a diff strain.. if u get pollen from a male NL and give it to the NL female then it ill be the same(ish)...instead of mking seeds u can always keep a clone under a CFL to keep it alive till u need it agn and a CFL is very heep to keep running... as for the selling part, im sure u know pl who sel weed... sell it to them in bulk, say u got it from a guy at work or sumthing.. u wont make as much $ as selling it in small quantities but it will keep u from gettin busted or robbed and both those cases would be even less money then selling it all in 1 shot... unless u have a small yeild in that case sell it to close friends or coworkers and say u got it from some1 else... by u trafficing tho can increase ur risk of gettin busted or robbed (they dont have to know u grow to do either of these) they can burn u for selling it

i say it depends on the male.
if it has traits you like such as short inter nodal length, rapid growth, rapid maturation.
if your male is spindly and weak, don't breed it. I personally believe that making your own seeds is
A#1 joy. It adds to the do-it-yourself fulfillment. As for getting rid of it... all i can say is think like a spy.
Or just smoke it.

If you use pollen from one strain and then pollinate a different strain you have then made a cross, a different strain that will be genetically different from either parent plant. Depending on what male you use what you produce my be something that is nothing like the NL you want to preserve. It may be close but it will not be the same and it may be very different and it may be very different in a way you highly dislike.

Can you just take a clone from your best female NL and keep it as a mother until you later grow using clones from it? Doing that would make sure you retained the genetics you seem to want to retain.

My next suggestion if you are bound and determined to produce seeds would be to find regular NL seeds that are high quality and not some low quality knockoff and then breed the best NL male you get with the best NL female you get and then you will have true NL seeds to hang onto.

Why risk creating some Dr. Smokenstein’s monster if you can instead make more of what a professional breeder worked long and hard at to in the end create the very best they could? True professional breeders grow out large numbers of both males and females and then pick the best of the best and then make numerous crosses using different males with different females and then using others with the first ones and also reversing which sex to use because of different traits and reverse the male and female usage of each type. Slowly they weed out the lesser creations and then finally settle on the very best and then they begin the tedious work of stabilizing their new strain so when grown you do not get a multitude of different phenotypes.

It really takes a lot of knowledge and skill and effort and a great setup and tons of time and patience so in the end the result is something worth the time and effort and expense.

Anyone can be a pollen tosser. Heck, there are a few pollen tossers out there that are mistaken for being true professional breeders. Now and then they luck into a winner but much of their line proves their incompetence.

Not to sound rude but it is likely that your skills and knowledge and experience and setup is even below that of theirs so I would scrap the idea of making beans of your own cross instead of using known quality genetics of the same type NL for both male and female plants unless you just want to give it a go for the experience alone and really do not care about the results.

The question was raised as to which sex plant to cross with the plant of the opposite sex to pick for what reason or reasons. That will depend on the strain. Many amateur breeders who want to make a cross using White Widow (as in the original genetics renamed Black Widow) their normal tendency is to take their best female and then use pollen from whatever male they pick for the cross. That is not the best idea.

Shantibaba says using a male Black Widow is the better choice to make. His words are; "A highly recommended strain for amateur breeders – the male being preferable."

So before making any crosses it is important to learn using which sex plant of each chosen strain will give the best results. Some pass on desired traits far better than others.

If someone does not know which to use and does not have a setup where they can grow out very large numbers of plants and make multiple crosses to learn which passes on the more desired traits better and which pass on less desirable traits or whose liked traits tend to be overpowered by other genetics in a cross the person needs to research … of just flip a coin and then hope for the best.
