Seed Sex

ok, i heard somewhere that if you interrupt the 6hrs of darkness in a 18/6 cycle with 1hr of light, you'll increase the chance that your plants will be females.

is this true? or are the sexes of your plants predetermined at the birth of the seed?

what's the deal?

sex is genetic....so you could not turn a gentic male into a female. you can save female from turning into hermies etc. but that light stuff you mentioned is just bs.

Some things do infuence the sex of seeds and growing conditions can increase the amount of female plants, temp, humidity ph, light spectrum all have an effect on the ratio of male to female seedlings you get

ok that's what i figured lol, but i wanted to be sure i wasn't missing out on an opportunity to elimate the possibility of a sausage fest in my growing area lol

ok, so what can i do to increase the number of females in my garden?

There are several things that you can do to help get more females, I would think one of the best authorities would be a seed company. Somebody who knows seeds, this is what dutch passion has to say about sex.

From literature and our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or female plant from seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors.

The environmental factors that influence gender are:
* a higher nitrogen concentration will give more females.
* a higher potassium concentration will give more males.
* a higher humidity will give more females.
* a lower temperature will give more females.
* more blue light will give more females.
* Fewer hours of light will give more females.
It is important to start these changes at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks, before reverting to standard conditions.


PS, there is someone I go to for advice, that swears by this method. They claim a 90% ratio of females.

yeah I never disagreed with this fact.....

^^ well video, lower temperature and higher humidity go hand in hand since humidity is relative linked to temp
Blue light you get from cfls in the 2700K range, that is in the high end of visible blue light and floros are general heavy in the blue spectrum, so that takes care

what i always ask myself about is what is a "high" N and P concentration is it just the ratio between N to P or how did they exactly figure that
